Brazilian-born, Melbourne-based producer WALLA C channels his heritage in his latest EP ‘Daylight’; a five-track journey through his various production styles and musical influences. Produced during the spring of 2018, ‘Daylight’ features a vibrant blend of soulful hip-hop beats and electronic grooves. The five tracks are sprinkled with synths and Rhodes, some of which are sample-based; but all rely heavily on Wallace’s own composition. Warm drums and intriguing rhythms weave through the entire EP. It allows the listener to travel through a tapestry of textures composed of synths, warm drums, heavy 808 drums, tambourines, and soft chords.

Of the EP, Wallace says; “The sounds are designed to be uplifting and the rhythms are upbeat. People can take whatever they want from the EP as long as they feel happy after listening to it.”

The EP is inspired by Wallace’s intimate understanding of Brazilian rhythms, jazz, funk, and samba. The track ‘Malagueta’, which is the Portuguese word for a household Brazilian chilli; opens the EP with progressive melodies and percussive baile funk vocals. His unique sounds are further influenced by his desire to experiment with song structure and synth lines; which makes the perfect soundtrack for chilled bedroom afternoon sessions. In contrast, the lead single ‘Daylight’ is a groovy house tune with a syncopated broken-beat feel that makes you want to hit the dance floor.
WALLA C is no stranger to the industry, from being a radio presenter for weekly hip-hop show Fresh Produce on PBS 106.7FM; to an event organiser where he’s curated events such as BeatLab, Drum Patterns, and Wax On Wax Off. On stage, WALLA C has performed live sets at various venues around the city; supporting local and international DJs including Amin Payne (AUS), DJ Marky (BRA), David Rodigan (UK), and Marcelo D2 (BRA); as well as being a part of the lineup at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival in 2018.
Through his complex live performances driven by the Roland SP555; and his clever combinations of original beats and reworks of contemporary classics; WALLA C has quickly garnered a reputation as one of Melbourne’s most inventive fresh producers.
