With less than a month until WASHINGTON’s Batflowers LP makes its debut, today Megan releases one of the biggest singles off her third studio album – the album title track, ‘Batflowers’.

‘Batflowers’ is a song which pairs palm-muted guitar with three-part harmonies that swim across verses before opening up into a pulsing ‘80s rhythm. Megan will perform for the first time an epic live performance of ‘Batflowers’ on Sunday night’s episode of ABC show The Sound.

Meg says about the song, “This song is about coming out of the worst place into the sunshine again, and a reminder especially when the current situation feels dire and impossible to come back from, that this too will pass if you just keep going. I wrote it when struggling with feelings of meaninglessness and futility; about the planet, about its future, about the voice of art being made smaller and smaller in our country, and about my place within all that, and what I choose to tell myself, who I allow myself to become. It’s a reminder that things can change, and will change, if you choose every moment to set your heart to that true north feeling. The hardest thing is to just keep going, but it’s all we can do and what we must do. “I wanna bring you Batflowers so you keep on going.”

It follows first tracks ‘Dark Parts’, ‘Kiss Me Like We’re Gonna Die’ (performed for the first time on ABC’s Q&A) ‘Achilles Heart’ and ‘Switches’.

As we inch closer to the release date of Friday August 28th, Megan revealed today the tracklisting of the 12-track LP. Available to pre-order today, Batflowers will be released digitally as well as CD, vinyl and for devoted fans ample album bundles with limited edition merch items.

WASHINGTON’s Batflowers LP is the sound of pop music tearing at its own fabric, writhing in the darkness as Meg, ever the maestro, conducts this chaos from the centre. A suite of tunes Meg turned upside down to shake out all the junk. ‘I’m here to have fun,’ she says. ‘Why not just record music you like with people you like?’

Those people all handpicked by Meg include Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, Tones and I, The Jungle Giants), Sam Dixon (Sia, Adele), John Congleton (Moses Sumney, St Vincent, Angel Olsen), Dave Hammer (Jess Kent, Mia Rodriguez, Genesis Owusu), Japanese Wallpaper (Mallrat, Allday) and cameo appearances from a curious range of performers like Sam Fischer and Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint).

The overwhelming response to WASHINGTON’s new album has attracted feature performances on ABC’s Q&A with Julia Gillard as well as the thumbs-up from fans and across the music community. Not only has Batflowers been met with great praise, but Megan’s 6-part musical comedy podcast Crossbread has risen in its popularity. Revealed last week on triple j breakfast, the podcast, which she co-wrote with Declan Fay and Chris Ryan, has been tweeted about by Leigh Sales, featured in US Apple Podcasts ‘Shows we love’ and reached Top 10 in the Australian Apple Podcasts chart. 

WASHINGTON will take to the stage for two nights only at The Tivoli, Brisbane, for her official album launch as part of this year’s Brisbane Festival. She will perform signature classics from across her catalogue of album’s and EP’s as well as songs from Batflowers.
