Platinum-selling and ARIA award winning musician Washington returns today with Claws via Island Records Australia. The delicate but triumphant indie-pop song is the first taste of new music since 2016’s Saint Lo and is accompanied by a breathtaking video directed by acclaimed film director Nick Waterman and Washington herself. Clawsexplores the beauty and danger of the female form through effortless lyricism and stunning choreography.
Produced by Sam Dixon (Adele, Sia) and John Castle (Jack River, Angie McMahon, Gretta Ray), Claws explores sex and intimacy from the female perspective. “The video is an exercise in exploring how “sexy” doesn’t have to be overtly provocative,” says Washington.
Taken from her forthcoming album, the acute thinker and blistering performer has captivated music listeners with her ability to tell stories that inflate the spirit.
I Believe You Liar, Washington’s platinum-selling debut album peaked at #3 on ARIA Album Chart and saw her win Best Female Artist and Breakthrough Artist at the 2010 ARIA Awards. 2012 follow-up Insomnia, an 8 track EP, saw her perform in Paris, London, New York and her first of many Sydney Opera House appearances. Her second studio album There There, debuted at #5 on the ARIA album chart in 2014 accompanied by dazzling festival sets at Falls, Splendour in the Grass and triple j’s Beat the Drum. The same year, Washington inspired people the world over with her honest and personal TEDx Talk ‘Why I Live In Mortal Dread Of Public Speaking.’ Most recently Washington’s soaring vocals have been heard on the new and euphoric Japanese Wallpaper single Fooling Around alongside Auckland NZ dream-pop musician Fazerdaze.

I am an avid music fan who loves finding new artists in my downtime. My love for music stemmed from a young age and spans most genres. I have travelled across the country as well as overseas to see some of my favourite artists. I have been involved in the music industry since 2011 volunteering and working on some amazing shows and festivals and wouldn’t have it any other way!
Aside from music, I am also a sports enthusiast. If I’m not surrounded by music, you can catch me watching and cheering for my favourite teams, most importantly, the Dees. I also love coffee, bad jokes and travelling.
