Following the release of the irresistible ‘MAYBE I’M JUST PETTY’ trilogy, today Naarm based Matilda Pearl shares her new single in an ode to Sex and the City icon, ‘Samantha Jones’. In ultimate power mode, Matilda bridges the gap between alt pop and indie rock as production powerhouse Alice Ivy (Vera Blue, Luca Brasi, PNAU) lends a hand, moulding walls of grunge-infused fretwork with electric yet intricate vocals. Layers of impressive harmonies are coupled with quirky ad libs hiding around every corner in true Matilda fashion, showcasing her versatility and masterful melodic creativity. Determined and confident in every stride, one couldn’t help but wonder how Matilda Pearl would conquer the streets of New York, capturing the very essence of Samantha Jones as she dominates from block to block with her insane energy. Exploring a new found edge and grittiness, Matilda Pearl cannot be put into any box, chef’s kiss, she is more Samantha than any of us ever could be.
Speaking to the inspiration behind the record, Matilda Pearl shares “not that anyone wants to hear about the pandemic anymore, but I binge watched all the Sex and the City seasons back to back during the Melb lockdowns. I remember being so annoyed about missing out on such a pivotal point (17 – 19 years) of my life being stuck at home. Watching it, Samantha Jones was kind of like this goddess to me. I love that she’s so iconic, unapologetic and sexually confident. I think we could all use some Samantha Jones energy in our lives.”
On working with Alice Ivy, Matilda notes “we really played around with how kooky we could get so it was heaps of fun bouncing off each other. It was basically a fan girl session over Lily Allen, Remi Wolf and Samantha Jones. When we listened to the final demo together we were like, surely no notes, this is cooked in the best way possible.”

Matilda Pearl is going from strength to strength as she shares her technicolour world with every infectious release. 2022 saw the young talent release a trilogy of records ‘FUCK U FINN’, ‘NICE TO KNOW YA’ and ‘GATEKEEPING DUMBSHIT’ that explored three short stories based on actual events. With her magical vocal agility and sparkling inflections on full display, the tracks earnt praise from triple j presenters including Declan Byrne sharing “Matilda Pearl keeps surprising in the best way!”, and Dave Ruby Howe noting when you’re “In the kitchen with Matilda Pearl, there’s no ingredient or spice that’s off limits. This is a legit sonic salad with all the good stuff thrown in.”
First discovering her love for songwriting at the age of 14, Matilda drew inspiration from the likes of Lily Allen, Dua Lipa, Madonna, Jamiroquai and Confidence Man. Going on to enter triple j’s Unearthed High competition with ‘Your Touch’, Matilda garnered attention from an array of the station’s presenters as well as former Unearthed High winner George Alice. Matilda Pearl has brought her insane energy centre stage over the last 12 months with her headline show at Northcote Social Club in November and a plethora of festival performances including Reconnect All Ages, Land of Plenty, Groove Tunes, Ocean Sounds and NYE On The Hill. Joining the likes of Safia and Boo Seeka for Seaside Sounds in April for what is guaranteed to be yet another stunning performance, Matilda Pearl is showing no signs of slowing down.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
