In the lead up to their anticipated appearance at Spilt Milk Festival (Gold Coast), Brisbane duo WIIGZ release their debut EP Songs To Catwalk To (out through Dew Process).
WIIGZ, aka Zoë and Hannah are a dynamic duo – vibrant, zesty and energetic. Together, they’ve crafted an effervescent collection of electro-pop songs designed to make you step outside yourself, immersing you in a world of popstar theatrics and dance-ready exhilaration.
Nothing about Songs To Catwalk To is subtle and that’s the very point.
Listening to Songs To Catwalk To gives a sense that you’re a million miles away from whatever is going on. On ‘Work’, you’re in a ‘90s cover shoot and on ‘Mini Skirt’ you’re turning heads everywhere you walk. Zoë and Hannah are formidable guides too. The lyrics are concise and commanding, the beats are slick and razor-sharp.
Songs To Catwalk To EP translates the high-class drama and glamour of the fashion world into attitude-heavy pop songs that invite you into their charade. From the organised strut-ready opener of ‘Catwalk’ to the brash confidence of ‘French Tips’, this is an EP that doesn’t let you rest for a second. In that way it echoes Zoë and Hannah’s life, equal parts wild and chaotic accelerated by a partnership that simply needed to happen.

The pair met in the first week at film school and immediately formed a bond. Fuelled by impromptu performances and a lot of partying, their friendship felt magnetic. Drawing influences from Dua Lipato Róisín Murphy, their music yields a captivating fusion of imaginative visuals and mesmerising melodies. Infusing pop sensibilities with an underground allure, Zoë aptly describes WIIGZ, “We just wanted to make pop music… we’re pretending to be pop stars by being pop stars.” This conscious playfulness breathes life into their sound, creating a dynamic sonic landscape that oscillates between vibrancy and enigma, forming escapism that can be the soundtrack for any occasion, “except for maybe a funeral,” Hannah clarifies.
“It’s not serious, it’s just pure camp.”
All the best pop music captures this – it has a transformative power.
The sound nods to the past – capturing everything from ‘90s pop-house to early ‘00s blog-house – but it also has a firm eye on the future. Their natural pop sensibilities see them craft melodies that can circle your head for days. It’s just as much music that can soundtrack a hazy night out as it can sit on the radio – combine the slick pop hooks of Spice Girls’ ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ with the crass edginess of Kim Petras’ ‘Slut Pop’.
In a short amount of time, their music has graced Spotify playlists such as Fresh Finds, Hot Girl Shit, House Special, Vibe Check and New Music Friday, Apple playlists such as New In Pop and New Music Daily and radio stations 4zzz, FBi Radio and triple j where they were the featured artist on triple j Unearthed.
WIIGZ’s ascent has seen them grace the stage alongside illustrious acts like Sofi Tukker, Wolf Alice, and Client Liaison, signifying their impressive musical prowess and captivating stage presence. This month, not only will they play Spilt Milk Festival on the Gold Coast, but the duo have been tapped to support Northeast Party House as part of Melbourne’s Always Live.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
