Eora/Sydney-based artist Winston Surfshirt releases his new album, WINSTON, out now via Sweat It Out. Produced alongside OSWRLD, the self-titled record is the fourth from Winston Surfshirt, complete with 11-tracks of adoration told through glowing musical fusions, altogether declaring a fresh sonic direction while remaining grounded in his irresistible signature.

Seamlessly sliding between smooth R&B tones and hip hop inflections to juiced up disco-house, WINSTON delivers an homage to his foundational sound while refining a new chapter in territory untouched. Rooted in the eclectic sounds of the late 90s and early 00s, perhaps the most formative musical period in Winston’s life, the album is a warm, playful sonic journey that – as the name suggests – is Winston to its core. Speaking on the record, he says “[it] feels like the music I was always supposed to make, still so me at its core but also so different and new that it almost felt like a debut album so we self titled it as WINSTON.”

Lifting off with the blissful charm that treacles throughout the record, “Turn Out The Lights” marries all-absorbing R&B dipped in disco and an old school hip hop beat, channelling some Janet Jackson undertones before the infectious grooves and unfiltered, take-it-or-leave-it attitude of “Ice Cream” takes hold, steeped in 00s foundations and an all-out elevation of everything Winston does best. “One Sugar” dollops in a spoonful of sweetness, “Desire” picks up the pace with skipping rhythms and toned down vocal samples, while “Up & Down” drips with seductive beats and tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Influences of 90s and 00s R&B are front and centre on “JEEP”, lyrically paying homage to Winston’s day-to-day dad life, before “Chop N Bowl”’s funk-laiden bassline and guitar whammies soon dissolve into an outro change-up that’ll have folks melting to the floor.

“Spend My Nights” once again effortlessly blends early 00s sounds with Winston’s signature smooth style; an ear-wormy, unabashed love song that feels both timeless and fresh all at once. The track’s lyrical focus on simple pleasures in love soon evolves within the butter-smooth, simple foundations of “Fill My Cup”, replete with addictive harmonies and a glorious lower body groove. “BOOTS”, the first single taken from the album, presents a dazzling ode to artistic evolution on today’s record, offering a rich tapestry of disco-house, vintage Miami bass and dashes of more contemporary flair, meanwhile “I Can’t Hide” launches into a fitting R&B beat to close out the record. Here, Winston spreads his wings with a triumphant mixture of the record’s many ingredients for a final moment of soothing ecstasy. Sitting in the vault for over 5 years, the same age as Winston’s first daughter, the track marked a turning point in becoming more of a songwriter than a producer, ultimately clearing the path for WINSTON to emerge.

Winston Surfshirt’s 2025 return has flung open the doors on a new chapter in his artistry, following the release of his delectable collab-heavy 2022 album, Panna Cotta. Over recent months the new world of WINSTON was carefully teased by a string of luscious singles. “BOOTS” featured on Zane Lowe’s New Music Daily and was highlighted by Apple Music as a priority track, while “Ice Cream” saw a triple j First Play that was closely followed by a spot rotation addition for “Spend My Nights” at the station. The latter was also added to 2DAY FM rotation, accompanied by interviews on Hot Hits with Nic & Loren, The Pulse w Seany B, iHeart Australia on KIIS with Gordie, meanwhile latest single “One Sugar” was named rage’s Feature Video. Sweetening up the Summer as he does best, Winston also took to the seas playing a pair of surprise pop-up shows at Camp Cove and Manly Beach from the back of a boat (watch here), and most recently made an appearance at VIVID Sydney for an electrifying hometown show.

Winston Surfshirt began as the solo project of their eponymous frontman, singer, producer and rapper. Over time, he brought together close friends and local artists to form the globally beloved project that we know today. His extensive touring has led to sold-out shows across the UK and Europe, highlighted by iconic performances at Falls Festival, Spilt Milk, Field Day and Splendour in the Grass, with the latter immortalised on triple j’s Live At The Wireless. Across 250 million streams, three dreamy albums and collaborations with the likes of Cosmo’s Midnight, Benny Sings and Talib Kweli, the multi-Platinum and 4x Gold certified artist is celebrating nearly a decade of music-making, inviting fans along for the journey as he elevates and expands his sonic landscape.

The eponymous climax during a period of reformation, heat up your winter blues and relish in the dazzling warmth of WINSTON, out now.
