Melbourne/Naarm’s breakout dark indie-pop derelicts, World’s Best Neighbours today share hypnotically eerie single “Disappoint You”. The moody track arrives alongside an animated music video that is as equally sad as it is hilarious.

Unfurling like a distant echo drifting through a shimmering mirage, “Disappoint You” is a grand mixture of entrancing guitars, droning piano, trip-hop drums and powerful melancholy vocals. The track transforms the familiar and nostalgic sounds of the ‘90s and ‘00s into something excitingly strange and original.

World’s Best Neighbours often explore the darker complexities of mental health and masculinity with a tinge of self-deprecation and absurdity. “Disappoint You”, is a grandiose and somewhat seductive ode that delves into the overwhelming feelings of being a failure.

“Personally, we think it’s hilarious that it’s a song about the anxiety and despair of disappointing people but it’s so sonically epic. The chorus sounds as if Post Malone and The Dandy Warhols teamed up to write a Bond theme song. It’s triumphantly and confidently standing up to say, ‘Sorry, I fucked it’.”  say the duo.

“No matter how dark the subject of our songwriting gets, we always find a way to make it funny for us. It’s like laughing at a funeral. Best feeling in the world.”

The accompanying music video, created by the talented illustrator/animator Ken Keiso, is an animated gem that takes its cue from painfully funny series like Bob’s Burgers, The Big Lez Show and The Simpsons. The clip is a montage of everyday people in disappointing situations: a proposal at a Maccas, your hero letting you down at a meet-and-greet and a band playing to an empty room. Keiso brilliantly captures the absurdity, stupidity and sadness of everyday life.

Off the back of this exciting release, World’s Best Neighbours will headline The Retreat in Brunswick, Melbourne on Friday 18 October. With a slew of new music on the horizon, catch a taste of what is to come!

About WORLD’S BEST NEIGHBOURS

Born from the moody and often hilarious synergy between Melbourne’s own Henry Williams and Dom Buckham, World’s Best Neighbours channel a shared passion for melody, groove, and sardonic storytelling into a sound that merges dark, catchy indie rock with echoes of ’90s Brit Pop and an uncertain future.

Based out of Brunswick’s Taste Police Studios, a creative home base for Melbourne’s indie rock darlings such as Fan Girl, Harris and Porpoise Spit—the duo have crafted an expansive sound that’s both cathartic and packed with catchy hooks. Henry and Dom first met in high school, writing music at parties and each other’s houses. Soon the two found themselves cutting their teeth in various bands around Melbourne’s music scene and gradually carved out a space of their own.

During the uncertainty of the 2021 lockdowns, songwriting once again became an antidote for Henry and Dom, much like it had been in their teenage years when they navigated their own struggles with depression and anxiety. This creative outlet reignited their collaborative chemistry, leading to the birth of World’s Best Neighbours and a collection of songs that have a unique take on something nostalgic.

In recent years, they’ve been involved in releases as well as been busy touring nationally and internationally with the likes of RAT!hammock, Fan Girl, Porpoise Spit, Merpire and Elizabeth M. Drummond. Last March, the two-piece released their debut single, “Small Planets”, a pop track that serves as a metaphor for drowning in the struggles of life.
