Naarm-based Wiradjuri artist YNG Martyr has today unveiled his melodic and explorative debut album “Lovesick”. Listen HERE. The impressive twelve track collection of boundary pushing hip-hop explores the constant pull between prioritising those he cares about and what he wants to achieve in life. The record features previously released singles “Frostbite”, “As I Should” feat. Allday, “Overthinking”, “5 Years” and “WAIT!”.

Crafted with acclaimed producer Tasker (Alison Wonderland, Nooky, Maribelle), and close collaborator Logan M “Lovesick” dives deep on YNG Martyr’s melodic, contemporary take on hip-hop; but expands his palette to include nostalgic punk “Hate U”, stripped-back piano ballads (“Colder”) and infectious pop sensibilities (‘As I Should’). True to the album’s sprawling sonic nature, “Lovesick” features samples and live instrumentation, hard-headed rapping mixed with more sombre singing, and features from up-and-comers like YNG One and trailblazing veterans like Allday.

The internet-viral rapper has had an exciting start to 2023 following a festival run of dates that saw him play Spilt Milk, Falls Festival, and Lost Paradise. Last month he also supported American breakout artist Iann Dior in Sydney and Melbourne. With viral online success boasting over 200 million streams on his concise catalogue, he combines his musicality with social media finesse and his own unique twist on popular culture.

About YNG MARTYR
Influenced by off-kilter rappers like Earl Sweatshirt and Soundcloud anti-heroes like Ski Mask The Slump God, Martyr released his debut single “Putin” in 2018. The following year, he took out a $15,000 loan for his single “Nike Ticks”, using the money to promote the song with meme pages and influencers. The grassroots online campaign worked and it became a runaway hit single, amassing over 75 million streams from across the globe. It was also crowned the ‘Song of the Year’ by Acclaim Magazine, and used in a video by Khaby Lame, the most followed TikToker in the world with over 160 million fans glued to his profile.
Martyr continued to release a string of singles including “Ease Off” which earned over 10 million streams, while he solidified his international reach with “BIG!”, a collaboration with American rapper Riff Raff. He began breaking out of the online spheres that birthed his career, with his recent singles “Love Boy”, “POP!” and “They Say” all added to rotation on triple j.
