“Fusing elements from disco & funk, ‘Pretty Girl’ takes cues from the likes of Prince and Funkadelic with a modern pop twist as Leo’s vocals float above fuzzy guitar lines and a chilled yet groovy rhythm section.” Pilerats (AUS)

Naarm/Melbourne-based funk-pop artist Zachary Leo has just revealed his poised new single ‘Pretty Girl’ – produced and mixed by Tobias Priddle and mastered by Pieter De Wagter.
‘Pretty Girl’ fuses disco-funk and modern pop elements with a delectably stylish result. Taking vintage cues from the likes of Prince and Funkadelic, the song is driven by suave guitar chords and sophisticated percussion, crafting an opulent soundscape that allows room for Zach’s decorative melodies.
Zachary talks about the meaning behind ‘Pretty Girl’: “The song speaks of falling in love for the first time and the fear and vulnerabilities that come with that experience, particularly the feelings and emotions that people experience inside their own heads.”
Alongside the release is the nostalgic music video – filmed, directed and edited by Brandon Carr at Mission Brown HQ. Shot with a grainy, 70’s aesthetic, the video is a light-hearted nod to Zachary’s humourous nature. He comments: “Brandon and I had no budget for a video, and we were sitting down listening to records and having some drinks and kind of just decided to start shooting some footage for the song. The video was shot and edited all in the same day and basically has no real concept other than Brandon and I just trying to make each other laugh during the filming. The running theme of the banana was more of an ironic part to the video as it is quite visually appealing, but I actually really hate bananas.”
To celebrate the release, Zachary Leo will be launching the single throughout May at Singing Bird Studios in Kulin/Frankston, and The Workers Club in Naarm/Melbourne. In the live arena, Zachary has sold out several previous headline shows at Grace Darling Hotel and Cherry Bar, and has shared the stage with beloved acts such as Cub Sport and Pacific Avenue.
Since his solo inception in 2019, 23-year-old Zachary Leo has meticulously crafted a signature sound that blends the fundamentals of funk, rock and soul, while speaking of love, heartbreak and self-destruction. Previous singles have seen support from the likes of triple j, triple j Unearthed, FBi, 3RRR, 4ZZZ, Beat Magazine, AU Review, MILKY, The BackBeat Podcast and scenestr.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
