on his upcoming sold out tour

Praise for ZIGGY ALBERTS:

“If you like powerful, soulful voices like Dermot Kennedy and storytellers like Vance Joy, then this is for you.” – Substream

“Folk-hewn but modern-facing, his work sits alongside those early Ben Howard cuts or even Jack Johnson, that kind of slick but still endearingly earnest musicality.” – Clash, UK

“Ziggy Alberts: The golden boy who busked his way to success.” – Triple J

“Youthful songwriter Ziggy Alberts’ sound has been described as ‘coastal folk’. It’s an apt description, with ‘Laps Around The Sun’ demonstrating both the warmth and loneliness of the coast.” – Songwriting Magazine

Passion and concern for the environment is a consistent theme in Australia’s self made indie sensation Ziggy Alberts’ music, and his upcoming sold out Australian tour and will see him continue to practice what he preaches.

Ziggy has been pushing to implement his Green Touring Initiative to all venues on his tour, with the goal of making each venue single-use plastic free for his shows. The overarching mission is to have all Australian venues and vendors participate in the Green Touring initiative, to collectively improve the benchmark, encourage permanent change for sustainable and environmental practices in the live performance industry, and lessen the industry’s impact on the environment.

In one of his most popular tracks, “Laps Around The Sun”, Ziggy explores the impact humanity is having on the environment, “Do you see the ways that we’ve gone too far, drifting off of our course. Do you see the ways we let plastic cover the ocean like snow?”. Through his Green Touring Initiative, Ziggy is taking a step from spreading this important message with music to actions.

“Green touring is not easy, and at the moment there is only ‘Greener Touring’,” said Ziggy Alberts. “As much as the concert attendees can choose what they buy or consume, what choices are they given at a live performance venue? How can we make this better? How can we give attendees better choices to choose from? That’s where we are trying to do our part through our Green Touring Initiatives.

On this upcoming Australia Tour we have:

·         5/5 venues are using Bio-Pak products across drink and serviceware

·         most food vendors at shows are using bio-degradable serviceware

·         all venues have implemented a waste management service/system (with Riverstage, Brisbane implementing BioPaks closed-loop

·         waste management service)

·         all venues are allowing us to host environmental stalls

·         production catering for 25-30 people are following our Green Touring Initiative incorporating BioPak

·         We-Refill water stations will be available at the Brisbane show for patrons to refill their reusable water bottles.

We are so lucky to have the support of BioPak, who make these endeavours possible on large concert scale. I’m super lucky as an independent artist to have a passionate like minded label team who make this a priority within  each tour, with growing intensity. What I ask you, as artists, managers, labels, booking agents & concert goers, is to help us set a new standard. We need to encourage & support all venues in their engagement in making live music greener.”

BioPak, manufacturers of a bio-plastic, plant-based cup (that is also compostable), are the preferred responsible plant-based cup provider for venues, and the partner for Ziggy’s Australian tour.

BioPak also offers a composting service, designed to close the loop on packaging and food scraps and ensure waste is converted into nutrient rich compost. More than just a cup recycling scheme, the BioPak Compost Service can divert up to 60% of your total waste from landfill, and collects compostable cups and lids, compostable packaging, food scraps and organic waste all in one bin — no separation required.

BioPak’s CEO Gary Smith, said about their partnership with Ziggy, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Ziggy Alberts to implement closed-loop waste solutions for his national tour. Our range of carbon neutral packaging is made from plant-based materials and can be composted after use. By using BioPak packaging for foodservice on the tour, the overall environmental footprint of the event is reduced whilst still maintaining food safety standards. This initiative represents a major shift in waste management at large scale events proving that compostable packaging and composting is a viable solution both practically and environmentally.”
