Australian pop princess Ricki-Lee is back with an exhilarating ballad that will without a doubt leave you speechless. The songstress rose to fame in 2004 on season 2 of Australian Idol placing seventh in the singing competition. Although she didn’t take the crown home, her presence on the show was highly recognised and lead her to her first solo single Hell No! in 2005, as well as a place in Australian girl group Young Divas.

Fast-forward just over a decade, Ricki-Lee has released four successful solo studio albums producing smash hits such as Can’t Touch It, Raining Diamonds and Do It Like That. As the singer has taken a few years off, her surprising new release Not Too Late dropped today and it will make you feel emotions you didn’t even know existed. The single marks a refreshing change for Ricki-Lee as she departs from her usual upbeat dance tracks.

The new track is a complete powerhouse vocal that will leave you with shivers down your spine. Through her raw vocals, you can feel the pain in her voice and it’s extremely mind-blowing to listen to. The instrumental is a soft, eluding melody that perfectly works with the climax of the track and Ricki-Lee’s vocal performance. The song touches on themes of love, hope and hurt. Ricki-Lee reminisces as she sings about past memories with an ex lover that she’s lost. She emphasizes the fact that her world has become dark without them and that she sees light when they’re together, hoping they can come back to her and start over.

I’m absolutely blow away by Ricki-Lee’s change of pace with this track. It’s an exciting move for the songstress as she’s exposed a different side to herself that showcases a sense of versatility. Her insane vocal performance on this track is captivatingly special and is definitely not something you hear everyday within the pop industry. I feel like I’ve hit gold with listening to this track and I know anyone else listening to it will as well. If Ricki-Lee keeps up this startling new side to her career, I’m sure her fifth studio album is going to create wonders.
