Having gained a reputation as one of the best live bands in the UK, You Me At Six have touched down for their 8th run of dates In Australia. These September shows are in support of their fifth studio album Night People. Joining You Me At Six are Sydney’s Hellions and Brisbane punks Columbus.

2017 got off to a flying start for You Me At Six with the release of Night People (out now through Liberator Music/Infectious Music/BMG), which helped cement their status as one of the most important rock bands to emerge from the UK. With the help of the singles taken from Night People (‘Night People’ and ‘Give’), You Me At Six became the first band ever to have 15 concurrent A-List singles on BBC Radio 1.

I’d love to say Brisbane tore the roof down as we all vicariously rocked out to our hearts content over Columbus, Hellions, and You Me At Six; but to be quite frank we wanted that roof to stay intact as there was a severe storm and constant hail outside the venue. While the weather and maybe the exact location of Eatons Hill turned some away, there was still one heck of a crowd.

Crowds arrived early to welcome Brisbane’s own Columbus on stage. You can definitely say Columbus are indeed Brisbane’s happiest punks. Their songs grow from a place of sadness, but then blossom onto the stage with a small smile that says it’s all been worth it. Catchy tune after catchy tune, Columbus’ set was an absolute banger.
Mid set, vocalist, Alex Moses joked about drummers having equal rights as well when Columbus’ drummer Daniel Seymour’s kit was situated behind Moses. The crowd had all round chuckle and they finished their set.

Sydney 5-piece Hellions were next up on stage and fans were eager to see these guys rip through Brisbane yet again. Since forming in 2013, Hellions have wasted little time in establishing themselves as a force in innovative heavy music. With rock, punk, metal and pop all blended with relentless melody and frenetic guitar work, Hellions have formed a progressive sound that they can proudly call their own.

Hellions. They came, they conquered. Straight from the get go, the band eagerly moved about the stage and played to their hearts content. Brisbane being a city who are not afraid to have a cheeky mosh pushed their energy to the max and had some jolly good times through the set. It was as though every third person you saw in the crowd were already repping some good old Hellions merch. Notable mention that one of Hellions fan favourites Thresher was just one happy sing a long.

Last but not least; You Me At Six. The band we’ve all been waiting for. You couldn’t tell the singles from other album tracks as punters were just as loud for both. I must admit I may have belted the lyrics a little louder forFresh Start Fever then any other but come on its an absolute banger and crowd was going bonkers every bit of it.

Frontman Josh Franceschi stole the show with his witty commentary for the night; commentating on the bands love for Australia and whipping out a good old aussie accent. Comments were made over Trump, but as a whole we pushed politics to the side and enjoyed the night that was in front of us.

‘Too Young To Feel This Old’ allowed the crowd to have a bit of a breather when just Franceshi and guitarist Max Helyer took to stage to play the track acoustically.

During the whole night, the five-piece seemed to come alive and bounce off each other. The continuous smiles and laughter from band mates during the whole set left a sense of joy to the air; that You Me At Six are still going strong. It’s a fantastic feeling knowing that a band is having just as much fun on stage as punters are having off.

I’ve been to a few You Me At Six shows to already know that they put on one hell of a live show; but the band are always outdoing themselves. The performance left punters still wanting more after the nights end; so we’ll all sit here patiently waiting for their next tour to come back around.
