THURSDAY JULY 20 NORTH BYRON PARKLANDS

Renowned artist development platform, Red Bull Sound Select, today announces it will make its Bryon Bay debut at Splendour in the Grass for a Thursday evening first night fever party like no other. The program adds North Byron Parklands to its list of worldwide locations alongside North America, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Sydney and recently Melbourne.

From Splendour’s hotly tipped Mix Up stage, Red Bull Sound Select will deliver an unforgettable start to the three day event, treating early Splendour campers to performances from some of Australia’s brightest names bubbling-up at home and abroad, including globe-trotting three-piece Mansionair, Zambian-born, Melbourne-based poet and songwriter Sampa The Great, shining new-disco winners GL, South West Sydney MC B Wise, sensory electro duo Alta and electro boogie trio Broadway Sounds.

Headlining the first night festivities are Sydney’s Mansionair. The three-piece have amassed a phenomenal following for their genre-bending sounds. After supporting the likes of Florence and the Machine, Alt-J and touring the US, UK and Europe with Chvrches, the group were invited to perform at Red Bull Sound Select’s 30 Days in LA series.

Fellow 30 Days in LA featured artist, is Zambian-born, Botswana-raised, singer-songwriter and poet, Sampa The Great. In the midst of a breakout year, the now Melbourne-based artist recently unveiled her three-track EP HERoes Act 2 with Red Bull Sound Select. All tracks feature UK artist Estelle and LA producer Rahki, and are the result of a series of collaborative sessions at the Red Bull Paris studios. After visiting the UK last month for Brighton’s The Great Escape festival – don’t miss hearing Sampa’s explosive new work live.

Off the back of their new single “Destiny” and forthcoming double a-side, Melbourne duo GL will showcase their thrilling spin on classic disco, funk, soul and electronic pop for their Mix Up stage debut. The band have earned international recognition from the likes of The Guardian, i-D, The Fader, V Magazine and XLR8R – and were handpicked to support Nick Murphy fka Chet Faker on his national headlining tour.

Joining the pair, is an artist on the breaking point of wide hip-hop acclaim, Nigerian-Australian MC, B Wise. Having come a long way since his debut in 2015, the Sydney-based artist was the opening act for Red Bull Sound Select’s second ever Australian instalment in May 2015. Since then, he’s reached new heights releasing tracks “40 Days” and “Lately”, signing to renowned label Elefant Traks and headlining Red Bull Sound Select Sydney in April this year.

One of Australia’s most promising duos, Alta make their way to Splendour in the Grass. The Melbourne-based pair have been busy forging a name for themselves with their brand of strikingly chaotic, electronic pop. After unveiling their Sincere EP via Melbourne label Soothsayer and appearing on Red Bull Sound Select Sydney’s October edition last year, Alta continue their R&B and electro-pop takeover.

From Byron Bay via Melbourne, Broadway Sounds complete the lineup, indulging their love for 80s exotic electronica. No strangers to festivals, the trio have performed across Europe and the UK at the likes of Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party and WOMAD UK – and closer to home on Heaps Gay’s street party bill curated by Red Bull Sound Select. Their psychedelic 80s-funk fusion is sure to keep Thursday’s crowd moving.

The Red Bull Sound Select program works with tastemakers across the globe to curate artists from local scenes; bringing together musicians at the onset of their careers with already established acts. Red Bull Sound Select supports these acts through 200+ annual shows and festivals, in-studio collaborations, music distribution opportunities and marketing. On an international scale, Red Bull Sound Select has teamed up with the likes of Chance the Rapper, Mick Jenkins, Gallant and Jazz Cartier, while the acts on the Red Bull Sound Select Splendour bill have been the artists to work with the program locally, alongside many others.

Red Bull Sound Select currently visits Sydney and Melbourne for a monthly lineup programmed in turns by internationally esteemed record label, Chapter Music, tastemaking juggernaut I OH YOU, Sydney’s FBi Radio and purveyors of fresh, seminal music Laneway Festival.
