Have you always wanted to be a producer? When did you start pursuing your music career?
In some form or another, I’ve always wanted to have a career in music. I originally wanted to be a singer/songwriter. I made a ton of music that was more on the indie/electronic vibe with my vocals at the forefront but over time realized that the production was alright but the vocals were terrible haha.
I started pursuing music more seriously in my second year of University when I started to ignore my schooling and started falling asleep in class because I’d been up all night making beats in my dorm room.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I would describe it as melancholy and nostalgic.

Your new single, “CLOSE2ME”, on bitbird’s compilation ‘Gouldian Finch 4’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
Originally, CLOSE2ME wasn’t supposed to land on Gouldian Finch 4. I had another track finished up that was on the compilation but a few weeks before the release date, we realized that the vocal sample had been used by another bitbird artist a while back. To avoid confusion we pulled that track from the compilation. I had sent Bitbird a SUPER rough version of CLOSE2ME and we decided to try to get it finished. The demo for CLOSE2ME was mostly just the vocal chops and that buzz-y bass sound from the intro over some more trappy drums.
I had been listening to a lot of 2-step and UK G stuff and decided to try my hand at that style of percussion and drums – which ended up working out!

Do you have any other upcoming releases in the works?
I’ve got a ton of remixes and a few new originals in the pipeline while I finish up the next project!

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
Not currently! I’ve been trying to focus more on creating rather than playing shows lately. I want to have enough music for fully original sets when I get back into the swing of shows.

How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
Covid has been a wild ride. As a Canadian artist, performance visas for the US have been a little bit more tricky to secure than in previous years – another reason why I haven’t been playing a ton of shows.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Playing live is a massive stress reliever for me. In my everyday life, I’m a fairly anxious person. Before a set, I’m always super nervous and overwhelmed with the thought of getting on stage but as soon as I play the first track of a set, I feel a huge wave of relief. I get to enjoy an hr+ of zero anxiety and stress which is rare!
It’s such an added bonus when the crowd knows the words to my music as well.
My favorite moment has to be the set I played at a festival called FVDED in the Park in my hometown, Vancouver – right before Covid hit. Even though I had an early time slot, the stage was packed and the crowd was unbelievable. I love Vancouver!
