Dynamic New Zealand electronic duo SACHI have today dropped their brand new EP Breakfast With Ella, featuring the focus single ‘Falling Backwards’ (Out Via Republic Records). The six track EP completes their trilogy series, following on from 2016’s debut Lunch With Bianca EP and 2019’s Nights With Ruby EP.
Of the trilogy and new EP, one half of the duo, Will Thomas details: “Each project has been a constant evolution of our sound and the SACHI project. So much has changed since we released our first EP, it’s been such an amazing journey. For us, each character (Bianca, Ruby, Ella) are all characters the listener can interpret into their own lives.”
Nick Chrisp adds, “We started the EP in Los Angeles in 2019, and finished it in the midst of the global pandemic. The lockdown restrictions on travel and large gatherings were time for introspection for everyone. I found myself reflecting on the community our band has cultivated and how the cornerstone of that community is that physical connection and gathering, and how we could pay homage to that in the EP. Songs that were about dreams and memories turned into songs about yearning for different times, or being supportive to a loved one.”
Having created a majority of the project remotely during New Zealand’s lockdown, Breakfast With Ella is a reflection of the live music the duo were craving at the time, while also portraying the intense introspection of coming of age during a global pandemic – on uptempo songs that prioritise emotional connection, supporting loved ones, and checking in on your mental health.
That strong sense of connection running through the veins of their music is evident on previously released singles, the bilingual disco-house number ‘Enchantè’, bouncy bop ‘You (á la)’, love letter to live music ‘Take Me Back’, and empathetic anthem, ‘Down On Your Luck’, alongside two new dazzling pop-glossed dance tracks, ‘Lift Off ft. Carla Wehbe’ and focus single ‘Falling Backwards’.
The duo intertwine booming bass and exhilarating synth production, with live instrumentation and vocals in their theatrical live sets; their energy always providing a contagious sense of electronic dance music escapism. Forever chasing the adrenaline rush of musical energy exchange, Breakfast With Ella marks the end of an era for SACHI, while signifying an exciting new chapter ahead of debut album exploration. Continuing to experiment, elevate, and evolve – Breakfast with Ella is the mesmerizing conclusion of SACHI’s three EP series.
