Yorta Yorta/Wangaratta-based artist and producer MOZË has revealed her poignant new single ‘WouldYou Be Mine’ – produced by the artist herself and ARIA Award Winning producer Stephen Mowet (PEZ, Ali Barter).
‘Would You Be Mine’ beckons into MOZË’s intimate realm, where her delicate voice and stripped soul arrangement mesmerises and commands unabridged attention. The melody soars with ease, emitting sonorous tones, accompanied by steadfast drums and ethereal soundscapes. The rising final chorus envelopes the listener into a tapestry of raw emotions, vividly depicting love, loss and longing.
MOZË talks about the inspiration behind ‘Would You Be Mine’: “I wanted the writing to be fantastical and passionate because in the end the love story is only a daydream. The love doesn’t exist but the expectation and the hope for it does. The song captures our intrinsic longing for partnership and connection and the portraits that our minds create throughout the endeavour.”
Accompanying the song is a heartfelt music video directed, produced and edited by Annabel Mactaggart, and also edited by Melissa Nicholson. During the video, two dancers express themes of loss and heartbreak against a meticulously designed set of 30 white bed sheets, transforming the space into a surreal and dream-like world. The choreography weaves a narrative of anguish and catharsis, as the dancers’ bodies intertwine and release, evoking complexities of the human experience. The music video becomes a visual poem and MOZË discusses the story as, “The dream state of a young woman, exploring the journey of reminiscing on past trust ultimately depicts a universal experience: the private romanticisation of lovers who are no longer in our lives.”
Previous releases have been widely embraced by Spotify, triple j, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, PBSFM, 3RRR, 4ZZZ, 2RRR and 2XXFM.
