Zaccaria Concerts & Touring are thrilled to announce another SUMMERSALT concert event in the coming season! SUMMERSALT continues to deliver cream-of-the-crop artists to the great Australian outdoors with our finest home grown artists. XAVIER RUDD and very special guests Yothu Yindi & The Treaty Project, Sampa The Great and Tay Oskee will be performing live at Leura Park Estate on Saturday 16th March, 2019.

Since the very beginning, XAVIER RUDD‘s ability to connect with people has been his most powerful gift.  The more he has toured the world, the more hearts he has touched and the more of the world he has put back into his music. Writing music and living his life are one and the same. Earlier this year, the Australian singer-song writer and multi-instrumentalist released his ninth studio album ‘Storm Boy’. Six years have passed since Rudd’s last solo release, the No. 2 and Gold certified album ‘Spirit Bird’ and a lot of things have happened in that time. ‘Storm Boy’ tracks the last five or six years of his journey, his “awakening” and of all the things that “have made sense” along the way.  It captures the need to maintain an environmental and human kinship.

Yothu Yindi & The Treaty Project was initially launched in 2017, to celebrate the release of the 25th anniversary remix pack of Yothu Yindi’s ‘Treaty’ and raise awareness for the need for treaty with Australia’s First Nations people. In this exciting new, electronica-driven formation, founding members of Yothu YindiWitiyana Marika, Stu Kellaway and Kevin Malngay Yunupingu are joined onstage by former band members and popular Indigenous singer/ songwriters.

The group also features cabaret artist Kamahi Djordon King and emerging Yolngu singers, Yirrnga Yunupingu and Yimala Gurruwiwi. Rounding out the line-up is multi-instrumentalist Ania Reynolds (the current musical director of Circus Oz), Kellaway’s son Roy on guitar, along with DJ/producer Gavin Campbell on additional percussion and the Toraiz SP-16 sampler.

As evinced by Yothu Yindi’s success in the 1990’s, Indigenous music, song and dance are powerful tools of protest. The current national conversation surrounding Indigenous affairs and recent wave of new generation artists keeping the message and culture alive; such as A.B. Original, Baker Boy, Kardajala Kirridarra, Electric Fields, not to mention the recent successful reformation tour of Midnight Oil; as stalwart supporters of the cause, it has been made clear that now is the time to renew their involvement in that protest.

Yothu Yindi has already garnered widespread interest following a string of appearances at: Strawberry Fields Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, Homeground at Sydney Opera House, Enmore Theatre and Croxton Bandroom, and more recently, performing ‘Treaty’ at the Closing Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018. This came hot on the heels of their memorable performance at Festival 2018 – an outdoor concert on the opening night of GC2018.

Sampa The Great is one of the world’s most soulful rappers, and an artist in every sense of the word. Motivated by “a search for creativity, laughter, purpose and rhythms”, the poet and neo-soul performer is blessed with the ability to weave dense, lyrical mazes with her verses.

.

The instant she takes to the stage you’ll know why she took home the prestigious Australian Music prize for her debut record, ‘Birds and the Bee9’. Sampa has won over a wave of adoring fans with her live performances and has sold out headline shows & festival slots at: Golden Plains, Sugar Mountain, Laneway, Womad & Vivid Live.

Opening SUMMERSALT will be singer / songwriter Tay Oskee.  He is a multi-instrumentalist playing different types of guitars, banjo, harmonica and percussion.  With a musical style that is wide and varied, Tay can take you on a journey from chilled beach tunes to punchy riff driven roots music with distinct multicultural influences.
