Known for her confessional songwriting, Perth/Boorloo wunderkind Carla Geneve expands on her narrative with the announcement of her second album alongside first single ‘Bills’ out now. The omnibus titled HERTZ marks a fresh chapter for the multi-award winning artist and will be released on Friday, 27th October via Dot Dash / Remote Control Records.
Encompassing pop, indie, alt-country and a catchy-as-hell hook, ‘Bills’ reflects on the stress of a relationship that’s being ruled by finances. Geneve elaborates “It’s about being entirely in love with someone that was stuck in a continuous work schedule doing something they hated. Money was the issue, but you can’t buy someone out of a bad situation, especially if you’ve got no cash either.” The accompaning visual is an extreme embodiment of the predicament.
Geneve’s singles tour will offer the first chance to catch these intimate new tracks live, crossing the country in September and October. Tickets here.
HERTZ marks a change in perspective for Geneve, informed by major life changes and intense growth brought to life with her signature brutally honest lyricism. The release of the singer/songwriter’s debut album, the AMP-nominated Learn To Like It, coincided with the pandemic resulting in the quiet months that followed spent conceptualising and writing her second LP. “My experience had broadened – I’d been touring and working so hard for so long and then I finally had a chance to do not much at all. I was also diagnosed with bipolar at that time. Understanding the implications of that diagnosis is a big part of this album,” she explains.
As a result this new release is very much a concept album, an incredibly vulnerable documentation of Geneve processing her experience with bipolar disorder. She plotted the progress of songs to reflect the ups and downs of a mood cycle forming a frequency, hence the album title HERTZ.
Geneve is a record-breaking seven-time winner of WAM Song of the Year, a winner of the Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Comp ‘Emerging Songwriter’ Prize, and has honed her live chops on the stages of Falls Festival, Laneway, Party in the Paddock alongside bills supporting Cat Power, Kurt Vile, Julia Jacklin, Belle & Sebastian, Fred Armisen, Gareth Liddiard and more. Her debut North America tour was supporting San Cisco in 2019, and she was invited to showcase at 2020s SXSW and The Great Escape.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
