Chloe Styler’s dreamy brand of Pop Country flirts with heartbreak on her new EP, Side B.
As the sequel in a larger project – Side A appeared 9 months previous – the release of Side B is somewhat cathartic for Styler. “These 5 songs mark the end of a 6 year chapter of my life, and to be honest, I’m really looking forward to leaving these memories in the past,” she says with a smile.

Side A was met with critical acclaim, garnering a nomination for ‘Release of the Year’ for the 2023 Gold Coast Music Awards. Triple J’s, Dave Ruby Howe, wrote “Chloe can write a bop but she hasn’t forced this one into sugary overdrive. It’s a sweet midtempo release of charming classic pop music”. Whilst Side B’s lead single, ‘Meant To Be’, gave the same writer plenty more to praise. “She’s got range! Chloe sounds just as natural doing this sensitive, muted sound as she does making sweet country pop too.”
The new EP and its predecessor were both produced by genius, Andy Mak (The McClymonts, Vera Blue), at The Grove Studios on the NSW Central Coast. Written over a 6 year span it collates co-writes with Darlinghurst’s Jason Resch, and one with Mak, while the rest are 100% Styler. The result is 5 tracks of deeply personal songs revolving around heartbreak.

The EP’s middle track ‘January Love’ is Styler’s signature sound in spades; echoic synths and ethereal guitars, backed by an infectious groove. Interestingly, it finds its genesis in someone else’s story. “January Love is the first song I’ve ever written for somebody else,” recalls the singer-songwriter. “I wrote this song on the piano in my childhood rumpus room, and I truly didn’t think it would ever be released. Andy loved this song from the first work tape I sent him and strongly pushed for it to be recorded for the EP.”
‘Light Years’, ‘Hometownless’ and ‘Meant To Be’ build on Styler’s dreamy sound and draw inspiration from the singer’s romantic tragedies. Of the heart-shattering ‘Meant to Be’, she says “this is a really special song to me and quite therapeutic to listen to now that I’m years past it. This song was born from a period of personal growth so I’m really excited to have finally released it and invite listeners into my world a little bit more.”
Side B’s cautionary closer, ‘Come Back Around’ – ironically the oldest track of the entire project, written in 2017 – is a personal favourite for Styler. “This song is home to some of my favourite lyrics I’ve ever written.”

Recently Styler has made serious waves on the global stage, as just one of just five Australian’s invited to perform at Nashville’s prestigious CMA Fest. “This was an incredible achievement as a self-managed, independent emerging artist,” she reflects. Not only that, but she’s supported giants like Troy Cassar-Daley and Lee Kernaghan and appeared on festivals line-ups for Byron Bay’s Falls Festival, Gympie Music Muster, The Big Red Bash, and Deni Ute Muster.
Chloe Styler is undoubtedly a star set to skyrocket. Her deeply personal songs find home in a unique Country Pop sound, whilst still remaining authentic. “I’m really proud of these songs. I’m proud of how raw they are; how we stayed true to each individual song when bringing them to life – giving them just what they needed musically to really let them shine.” You can catch Chloe Styler performing songs from her EP at Brisbane hideaway, It’s Still A Secret on August 10.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
