On the eve of Death Cab For Cutie’s next Australian tour, a new remix of Northern Lights by Japanese Wallpaper has been released. Japanese Wallpaper is acclaimed Melbourne, Australia Electronic producer Gab Strum who was discovered in high school as part of triple j radio’s Unearthed High initiative and has previously remixed Charli XCX and worked with Wafia (Future Classic), plus toured his home country with M83, Melanie Martinez and most recently Lily Allen.

Death Cab For Cutie are touring off the back of their highly regarded 2018 album Thank You For Today which Pitchfork called ‘their strongest album of the oughts,’ Rolling Stone said the band felt ‘rejuvenated’ and locally the album was a Double J Album of the Week. The 8 time Grammy winners released their 9th studio album in August and were again joined by former album (Kintsugi) producer Rich Costey (Fiona Apple, Franz Ferdinand, Muse). Thank You for Today also marked the first Death Cab for Cutie release to see long time bandmates Gibbard, Nick Harmer, and Jason McGerr joined in the studio by new members Dave Depper (Menomena, Fruit Bats, Corin Tucker, Ray Lamontagne) and Zac Rae (My Brightest Diamond, Fiona Apple, Lana Del Rey, Gnarls Barkley). Depper and Rae have both been part of Death Cab’s touring band since 2015.

Since its release, Thank You For Today has been supported by a slew of remixes from some of the best names in Indie Electronica includingDaedelus, Grammy nominated Sydney trio Mansionair and most recently, heavyweight BT took his talents to remixing current single Northern Lights, listen HERE.
