Acclaimed Ghanaian-Australian artist Genesis Owusu, born Kofi Owusu-Ansah, just wrapped up a successful run at Austin’s SXSW Music Festival, completed two highly-praised performances as part of Red Bull Symphonic that included a sold-out Sydney Opera House show, and is set to support Paramore on a number of North American dates starting in May. Today, Owusu continues to be one of Australia’s most in-demand exports with the release of “Get Inspired” (ZHU Remix), the followup to his hit 2022 single, which NME called “unmistakably Owusu’s, shining with a driving beat and playful, rhythmic cadence.”

The original version of “Get Inspired” was produced by Dann Hume and Andrew Klippel, featuring a series of siren-like guitar wails, jutting bass notes and Kofi’s inimitable lyrical jabs. Offsetting a menacing and poetic punk hybridity is Owusu’s infectious falsetto breakdown midway through the piece before a driving rhythm resumes. “Get Inspired” followed the 2021 release of his debut LP Smiling With No Teeth, which won Album of the Year at the ARIAs, one of four awards he took home that night. His profound artistic revolution and soul-bearing diversity has seen his debut album, Smiling With No Teeth ushered in as one of Australia’s most praised recent albums. In addition to the ARIA wins in 2021, the album secured triple j’s “Album of the Year” and Rolling Stone Australia’s “Best Album,” among other awards. It also received global acclaim from tastemakers and critics alike including i-D, Los Angeles Times, MTV, NPR Music, OkayPlayer, PAPER Magazine, Pitchfork, SPIN, Teen Vogue, The FADER, The Needle Drop and much more.
