Today, multi-instrumentalist GUM aka Jay Watson announces the reissues of Delorean Highway and Glamorous Damage out Friday 8 July via Spinning Top Records. The founding member of Pond and touring member of Tame Impala will share his seminal debut and second studio album, newly remastered by Kevin Parker.  To mark the news, GUM also shares the futuristic official video for Ancients from Glamorous Damage.  Created by Baltimore animator Jake Armstrong, run the gauntlet on the ultimate battle of chess across alternating 3D space portals.

GUM says of the forthcoming releases, “I recorded Delorean Highway and Glamorous Damage in my early 20’s. They were my first attempts at writing, recording and mixing music on my own, so while there are parts of them that I find awkward and hard to listen to, I’m also really proud of them. They’re like looking at old photos, youthful exuberance and embarrassment all at once. Finally anyone who wants to own them on vinyl can, there were only 500 copies made of each at the time they were released and they’ve been out of print for a while now.”

Delorean Highway, GUM’s debut album was originally released in 2014.  The collection of 10 tracks are described as, “paranoid pop songs, mostly about falling in love and all of the things that he thinks are going to kill him”.  The title track and first single was inspired by a dream he had of driving through the desert in the silver car from Back to the Future, before taking off into the night. Second single, Growin’ Up, was unleashed onto willing ears and tapped into every emotion that the name would suggest – a sense of paranoia, doubt, fear, honesty and hopefulness. The remastered edition will be available on 180g matte silver vinyl, and the digital version will feature a bonus demo cover of Ron Davies’ It Ain’t Easy.

First released in 2015, Glamorous Damage is a warped comb running through the shiny hair of pop and disco. Produced and mixed by GUM and mostly recorded at home, the album is at times reminiscent of the elastic robo-glam of Prince, the sci-fi waves of Chrome, early Eno experimentalism and a love of Beach Boys melody. Featuring the lead single, Anesthetized Lesson, the album was critically acclaimed by the likes of Pitchfork, NME and Stereogum, and included on the longlist of the 2015 Australian Music Prize. The remastered edition will be available on 180g matte gold vinyl and the digital version features a demo of The Plot.

An eternal student of sound and song, GUM has gifted five studio albums since 2014, stealing studio time between his commitments with Pond and Tame Impala.  Watson’s ever omnivorous taste for styles, sounds and eras coupled, has seen take the stage as special guest for Mac DeMarco, Mini Mansions and Angel Olsen, in addition to sold-out shows in Australia and packed rooms across Europe, the UK and USA.
