“A hazy daydream that captures the fleeting nature of summer love . . . [weaving} together a cornucopia of sounds and timbres” – Ones to Watch on “Sweet Summer Sweat”

“A solid pop hook certainly doesn’t hurt the cause. Gratefully, it’s an art form that Jim-E Stack has nearly perfected.” – The FADER on “Note to Self”

“A potent reminder that sometimes the best way is through.” – E! Online on “Note to Self”

Los-Angeles based music maker Jim-E Stack has announced his brand-new album Ephemera, out October 30 via AWAL, featuring Bon Iver, Dijon, Empress Of, plus many more. To kick things off, Jim-E has shared his latest track “Jeanie” ft. Bon Iver, out now via AWAL.

On ‘Jeanie’, both artists meld their trademark sounds together to form an uplifting number. Justin Vernon’s booming, Autotune-drenched vocals feel right at home among Jim-E’s warm, rhythmic synths. Eventually, those synths melt to free up room not only for Justin’s crooning but also Jim-E’s bass and piano. It’s all a groovy balance, a quality mirrored by the opening lyric: “Don’t want you to feel too much.”

Ephemera’s earlier singles include “Sweet Summer Sweat” ft. Dijon, “Good Enough” ft. Ant Clemons, and “Note To Self” ft. Empress Of. Keeping busy in 2020, Jim-E’s production credits also appear on some of the year’s most acclaimed projects and albums including Bon Iver’s “PDLIF,” Charli XCX’s How I’m Feeling Now, HAIM’s Women in Music Part III, and Dominic Fike’s What Could Possibly Go Wrong?.

Jim-E creates sounds he wants to hear—to listen to a Jim-E Stack song is to know him. Though Ephemera does chronicle where Jim-E Stack has been, it better hints at where he will go.

Ephemera opens and closes with a powerful force of feminine energy, an unintentional nod to his mother. Her commitment to raising him and his brother by herself following the death of his father deeply impacted Jim-E Stack’s entire perspective, especially in regard to how women keep the Earth spinning on its axis.

“A big thing for me in the past couple years has been understanding and appreciating my mom’s experience in the world,” he says. “There are so many things that didn’t register with us like the difficulties of being a [single] woman in the workplace or social circles… I recognize it so much more and realize how lucky I am. My mom was always this voice of encouragement.”

Ephemera is also rooted in its connection with special features from Bon Iver, Kacy Hill, Octavian, Dijon, and Ant Clemons. As to be expected from Jim-E Stack, there is always a diverse sampling of artists that bring different perspectives to the table.

“I hope it’s a way for people to get to know me better as a person,” he concludes. “I feel like my production speaks to me as a person, it’s how I best express myself. My music is actually a very self-indulgent pursuit where I’m really just making songs I want to hear that resonate with me.”

Jim-E Stack has produced and co-written songs for a variety of artists including Bon Iver, Caroline Polachek, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Empress Of, HAIM, Kacy Hill, and Octavian.
