JJ Wilde’s music has been called “ripe and ready for stereo cranking” (American Songwriter) while also being “emotionally raw” (Earmilk) in its lyrical content, and those claims have never been truer than today with the release of her highly anticipated EP Wilde – out today via Black Box.

“There is a constant theme between all these songs as I reflect on them: freedom. This past year has been testing people in many ways, and freedom is definitely one,” said JJ. “So through these songs I have taken myself to a place where anything is possible. Where restrictions don’t exist and it’s all about chasing the next high. These are feel good, fun songs. There is enough darkness and sadness in the world right now, I wanted to give people an escape to turn to and reminisce on good times, or day dream of the brighter days ahead.”

The first single from the EP, “Best Boy” is JJ’s IDGAF ode to altering the societal narrative for how women should behave, which spent 4 weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard Canada Rock chart. It was her second song to reach the crowning spot on the chart after her smash hit “The Rush” held the pole position for a whopping 19 weeks.

Her latest single, “Mercy”, is a tour de force of modern rock. The track is set amidst a storm of swirling guitars and a wall of choral-like vocals while JJ pounds her fists and lets loose a near-animalistic wailing of catharsis as she tells a tale of revenge, turning the tables on someone who’s done her wrong. “Mercy” is empowering in its message of perseverance in the face of the world’s evil.
