The wait is finally over, JOY. has unveiled her highly anticipated brand-new single ‘Out Of Love’, out today via Believe, written and produced on her own in a rooftop studio in Darlinghurst. The new single, which received a first play on triple j Goodnights, showcases her stunning, ethereal-tinged vocals weaving over an organic beat as she echoes the complexities and rawness of falling out of love.

JOY. describes the new single, “‘Out of Love’ at its simplest is a reflection on falling out of love with someone, realising the cup has emptied over time as you’ve both grown apart. It’s a bittersweet reminiscence of the past before moving on to a new future. In my process, I prefer to focus on the overall feeling – predominantly through non-lyrical sounds – so that each listener might find their own meaning. I wrote different parts of the song at different stages of my own life and hope it will mean different things to different people in theirs.”

She has also shared a stunning clip to coincide with the release which was directed by Jack Toohey and produced by Sure Studios. Reflecting on a cliff’s edge in a floor-length gown, the setting is pure magic as the waves crash over a darkened sky.

Finding her voice when she was still 16 in 2014, JOY. stunned listeners with her emotion filled vocals and hypnotic production on debut single ‘Captured’ and follow up ‘Stone’. Some such stunned listeners being Australia’s biggest dance duo Peking Duk, who invited her as featured vocalist for their triple j ‘Like A Version’, performing Kylie Minogue’s ‘Can’t Get You Outta My Head’ and getting her tick of approval.

She quickly gained support and praise from triple j, with Nylon and Zane Lowe both earmarking her as someone to watch in the years ahead.

Those who kept watching, would not have been disappointed with her sophomore EP Six racking up more than 50 million streams, and collaborations with the likes of What So Not, Ganz, 360 and Zhu soon under her belt. Behind the scenes, JOY. continued to work as a producer and songwriter for other artists – producing for Teo, Phora, BLESSED, Manu Crooks, Anfa Rose and writing with Daheala (XO crew), DJ Khalil (Eminem, Kanye) Om’mas Keith (Frank Ocean, Anderson Paak), Vory, Jessie Reyez, Jess Jackson to name a few. Notably working with The Kid Laroi since his early days, for which she can now claim a role in his Billboard No.1 Album ‘F*CK Love’ for which she is a credited writer, producer and performer on, including hit ‘Selfish’ where she provides her stunning vocals.

On stage, her multi-instrumental skills have also been on show. With sell out Australian tours and support slots for the likes of SZA, Kehlani, James Bay, Raury, Tkay Maidza and most notably joining pop megastar Demi Lovato on her European tour in 2018, playing venues like the O2 Arena, wowing audiences, and garnering a new wave of fans.

To coincide with the new release, she has also announced she has signed a worldwide deal with Believe. JOY. says of the signing: “I’m very excited to be working with Believe to release my new music. It’s amazing to work with a business who are true music fans and champions of artists. They’ve given me the space and freedom to explore and evolve my sound and I can’t wait to share more”.

Believe’s Country Manager for Australia & New Zealand Mick Tarbuk also commented on the signing, “I vividly recall seeing JOY. perform at Bigsound 2015. A team member at the time asked me, “of all the artists at Bigsound who would I want to work with the most?” My answer was JOY. Ever since launching our Artist Services model here at Believe, JOY. was at the very top of the list of artists we wanted to work with. We are beyond thrilled to welcome her to Believe, our Artist Services model is exactly what JOY. and team need to take this project to the next level globally.”

JOY. the artist, like the emotion is for everyone. Her music doesn’t fit squarely into any genre, melding modern sounds with classic techniques to create something contemporary and timeless at the same time. A combination of ambience and pop, intending to take people on a somewhat spiritual journey through listening. Where she had previously written predominantly within her production software, JOY. has gone back to her roots by writing on keys and guitar, giving her music the most organic and classic sound to date. ‘Out Of Love’ has given fans a little taste of what to expect from the future of JOY.
