“A performance that reminds us why she’s one of Australia’s most powerhouse vocalists.” – TRIPLE J

Having made her triumphant return at the top of 2022, Meg Mac offers another sublime taste of her forthcoming album with the reveal of her sky-reaching new single, ‘Understand’.

Co-written and produced by Jesse Shatkin (Sia), ‘Understand’ showcases the world class vocal tones of Meg Mac over a more dance floor ready arrangement. Arriving with a video directed by Ash Lim, the track is an exciting bridge to Meg’s new album ‘Matter of Time’, set for release on September 16 and available to pre-order here now.

“I think if you put yourself in anyone’s shoes, even your worst enemy you would understand where they’re coming from. We’re all misunderstood and at the same time I think we all need to be more understanding.” says Meg of the track.

‘Matter of Time’, Meg’s soon to be released third studio album, came into being across 2020 and 2021 and is a document of an artistic rebirth of sorts, fleshed out by her most fully-realised sonic and visual palette yet. From the lead single ‘Is It Worth Being Sad’, the first track written from the countryside as lockdown hit, to re-imagined gems from the ‘unreleased’ album ‘Something In The Water’ and ‘Don’t You Cry’, to selectively seeking songwriting collaborators PJ Harding (Noah Cyrus) for several songs on the album, and Jesse Shatkin (Sia) to bring additional magic to the likes of ‘Understand’ – Meg took time to realise her newly found control and purpose.

Enlisting production duo The Donuts (Kendrick Lamar) to capture Meg’s stunning and versatile vocals and push them to the fore in a range of ways; you can hear their synergy across the record, from the woozy, unlikely jam of singles ‘On Your Mind’, the breeziness of ‘Only Love’, and the intimacy of forthcoming songs like ‘Something In The Water’ or ‘Lifesaver’.

2022 has marked a mesmerising return to form from Meg Mac. In retreating to the stillness of rural NSW, Meg Mac has created some of her most searingly personal music to date. The past months have seen her release well received offerings in the album’s first three singles and gaining acclaim from areas such as NME, Russh, Rolling Stone, CLASH, Wonderland, House Of Solo and more in the process. Her return to the stage was celebrated by her audience, selling out her national tour in the process. The tour ended in a triumphant closing night as part of this year’s Vivid Festival at the Sydney Opera House. Mac’s shows were described as “A badass masterclass in flexing God-given talent. Meg is professionalism defined”.

Meg Mac has created a body of work rich in searing honesty. ‘Matter Of Time’ is the next chapter from an artist who continues to carve a niche for herself.
