Yes Rave are hyped to release ‘Very Pretty’, the second record of 2018 from Melbourne rapper/producer Simo Soo.

Whereas the PTSD informed ‘Everything is Going To Be Okay’ from April focused on anger, healing, forgetting who you are and hiding out from the world, ‘Very Pretty’ is very much it’s thematically polar opposite.

Recorded start to finish in 5 weeks (the project was finished 2 weeks before it’s release) Soo speaks on positive energy and spiritual awakening whilst throwing kisses at those along for the journey and barbs at all in their way. This is a record that names names… for better or worse. An album with nothing to lose, realising the power of dancing your dance when you feel like no one is watching.

This is the sound of Frank Zappa with an internet addiction, a pirated copy of Ableton Live and a Metro Boomin sample pack, Björk and the Powerpuff Girls starting a black metal band, the Beastie Boys collaborating with a horrorcore version of Yo Gabba Gabba.

Soo handles the production for the entire record bringing about pummelling hip hop beats mixed with club pop anthems, found sounds, death metal, Sci-Fi synths covered in garbage, samples ripped straight outta Instagram stories and at one point the sound of their housemate’s guinea pig playing with marbles (used as high hats no less).

As usual an array of incredible guests feature in kindred spirit Bilby, Sydney vocalist and beat maker flower boy 卓颖贤, Melbourne’s Lalić, vocalist/producer Bistro, reggaeton artist Mamacita Death (performing a spoken word piece in Spanish on sexual awakening) and a warped beyond recognition cameo from No Zu’s Daphne Camf.

‘Very Pretty’ is out now thru Yes Rave.
