Rising First Nations artist Mitch Tambo has released a version of John Farnham’s Australian classic, ‘You’re the Voice’, sung in Mitch’s native Gamilaraay language.

The Melbourne-based singer first came to national attention earlier this year when he performed the iconic anthem on Australia’s Got Talent, wearing the Dhinawan and Murray crest and feathers, which have significant meaning to his people.

Mitch said: “’You’re the Voice’ is one of the greatest Australian songs ever written. The lyrics are about being a voice for change which really resonated with me as I too would like to be a voice for change – a voice for inclusion, love, hope and acceptance. There’s no better way to do that than through song. I wanted to put my own spin on the track by singing it in the beautiful language of my people and show that music itself is a universal language.”

The song follows the announcement last month that Mitch will join Eurovision Australia Decides, performing for his chance to represent Australia on the world’s biggest stage at Eurovision 2020.

With a musical style that blends traditional sounds and language with contemporary beats and production, Mitch is a new voice for a generation seeking music that cuts across cultures.

Stay tuned for the release of Mitch’s Eurovision song in early January 2020.
