ARTIST SHORTS

Heading for Dashville is Australia’s premier soul funk outfit, The Bamboos, who have taken their smooth grooves right around the world. Featuring band leader Lance Ferguson and vocalist extraordinaire Kylie Auldist, and fresh from support slots with Robbie Williams, the eight-piece band from Melbourne should be set to have Gum Ball their feet.

Bringing a touch of Brit-rock swagger will be indie legends The Cribs, who will kick off their first Australian tour in five years with a headline slot at The Gum Ball. The Wakefield three-piece, featuring brothers Ross, Gary and Ryan Jarman, just dropped studio record number seven, 24-7 Rock Star Shit. It’s a return to their rawest rock days and is produced by the legendary Steve Albini.

One of Australia’s great live bands, Rocket Science, have recently made a triumphant return to the live arena. A legendary band of the naughties, Dashville is very pleased to have coaxed them back to the Hunter for a special performance for Gum Ball this year. With their organ-soaked take on garage psychedelia, and renowned livewire performances from front man Roman Tucker, Rocket Science are a very welcome placement this year.

An exciting addition to the bill is French-Canadian psych-rock band Les Hôtesses dHilaire (translates as The Hosts of Humour), an award-winning Canadian act, with an energetic and enigmatic front man, who are very excited to be making their first ever journey “Down Under”.

Other acts include arguably one of  Australia’s best singer-songwriters, Ben Salter, Melbourne punk-ska outfit The Resignators, beloved 10-piece reggae outfit V Tribe, Sydney indie-rockers Letters to Lions, Adelaide alt-country duo Hana & Jessie-Lee, six-piece soul funksters Thunder Fox,and stand-up locals Nicholas Connors, Lennie Tranter, Dave Wells, Baghead and, lastly, the formidable force of super group Dashville Progress Society.
