SA based Board Member and Artist Manager Sian Walden, said this about the National Live Music Awards’ impending return,

“Having seen first hand the joy that shows returning has brought artists and fans alike, I’m excited to see the National Live Music Awards are back after a necessary pause.”

Walden reflected on why such a pause was necessary, even as stages reopened around the country in the last year, saying, “The industry has been navigating the new complexities that COVID has created, which have been challenging beyond what we could have ever imagined. But with that challenge came a reminder of the community spirit within our sector. I look forward to celebrating that community and all the wonderful people that make live music possible at the 2023 NLMAs.”

Recently, the awards also confirmed the final list of advisory board members, with the addition of Lucy Ahn, a ACT based musician and MusicACT staff member, who is taking over from the previous ACT board member, Ruth O’Brien.

Lucy is a program coordinator at MusicACT and a live music event coordinator & artist liaison at Canberra venue group UCLivex, as well as a musician and songwriter. An avid music lover and advocate, Lucy was on the team behind Canberra legacy festival Stonefest, awarded Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Award for Arts and Multimedia, and has graced a number of national stages and festivals as an artist including Groovin the Moo and SummerSalt Festival.

Lucy joins the already announced new members for the 2023 event: Keith Daverell from Music Tasmania and acclaimed musician, frontwoman of of Odette Mercy & Her Soul Atomics and creative producer, ‘Ofa Fotu in WA.

Founder of the National Live Music Awards, Larry Heath, said of Lucy’s appointment, “We’re thrilled to welcome Lucy to our advisory board. She will provide an important voice in ensuring our ACT events continue to well represent the Territory. And with past winners from the region like Genesis Owusu and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers going on to do incredible things nationally and internationally, we look forward to continuing to recognise the incredible talent that comes from the ACT as we celebrate the best live music in Australia.”

The role of the advisory board members is to help represent their state of territory, with at least one industry person from each state and territory represented. They vote on any changes or additions to the awards, nominate the judges, and help decide the recipients of the Live Legend awards.
