Ocean Sounds Festival is an annual family-friendly, music-lovers’ all-day sunset concert that will take place once again on the beautiful Churchill Island (just off Phillip Island) on Saturday the 7th January 2023.

This very special edition of Ocean Sounds Festival is packed with a massive line-up headlined by John Butler, The Waifs, Mama Kin Spender, Steph Strings, Carissa Nyalu and The Laing Brothers.

John Butler is one of Australia’s premiere alternative songwriters and storytellers with accolades spanning from 34 ARIA nominations, 3 number one albums and 21 triple j hottest 100 entries across his illustrious career as one of the country’s most successful independent musicians.

The original road warriors, The Waifs have built a career out of continually circling Australia and the globe thanks to their enchanting live shows and affable natures. With a career spanning more than 25 years, multiple ARIA Awards, platinum albums, and countless world tours, The Waifs continue to share their folk-infused, feel good sounds with adoring, now multi generation audiences.

It’s time for picnic rugs, smiling friends, stunning local wines, gourmet food, the summer-sun softly setting over the ocean and some of Australia’s most amazing live music!

As well as some of Australia’s best live acts, Ocean Sounds will also showcase local wines, cheeses and gourmet food vans.

Attendees are invited to bring their family, friends, good vibes and to enjoy a memorable experience of quality music in a relaxed, atmospheric and picturesque environment.

John Butler

John Butler is one of Australia’s premiere alternative songwriters and storytellers with accolades spanning from 34 ARIA nominations, 3 number one albums and 21 triple j hottest 100 entries across his illustrious career as one of the country’s most successful independent musicians.

His rich catalogue of iconic hits spanning over a quarter of a century include signature songs such as ‘Zebra’, ‘Better Than’, ‘Ocean’ and more. His music continues to traverse the globe having performed on the world’s most iconic stages, venues and festivals including Fuji Rock, Glastonbury, Coachella, Red Rocks Amphitheatre and more with his high energy live show and revered musicianship.

Butler’s most recent studio album, 2018’s ‘HOME’, debuted at #1 on the ARIA Charts with the record exploring new sonic territory, expanded instrumentation and experimentation which challenged but accentuated his core roots sound.

From the mouth of Margaret River, WA (Wadandi Boodja) to Victoria’s rugged Mornington Peninsula (Bunurong and Boonwurung country), Mama Kin Spender is a rattle and hum call across the desert plains. An ARIA-nominated duo of mischief-makers, MKS is Mama Kin (aka Danielle Caruana), a storyteller and dream weaver with a penchant for soul-baring; and Dingo Spender, a producer and songman with remarkable instrumental dexterity.

Long-time friends and collaborators, MKS combine drums, percussion and blistering guitar with lightning arrangements underpinned by harmonies that shimmer and smoulder. From the songwriting craft to the beats and beaming choir, MKS will leave you clutching at your chest while stomping and howling.

Steph Strings is San Remo-Melbourne based singer-songwriter who tells a story through her music.  With influences from the John Butler Trio, Tash Sultana and Ziggy Alberts, Steph’s musical style entails bursts of percussion alongside Celtic, blues and coastal fingerstyle indie-rock.

2022 has already seen Steph release her first single in over 4 years, releasing her singalong crowd favourite “Dusty Road”In January and February 2022, Steph conducted a headline regional tour of Victoria performing to crowds around the state in support of the Dusty Road release.

Steph has just recently played her first ever international performances after being invited to perform at Les Escales Festival in France, much to her international fans delight, as well as debut headline shows in London in August 2022.
