Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: The Weeknd ‘Blinding Lights’ – The Weeknd holds #1 for a ninth week with ‘Blinding Lights’. The Canadian artist’s fourth album, After Hours, was released on 20 March. The title track from the album lands at #48 in this week’s ARIA Singles Chart.

#7: SAINt JHN ‘Roses’ – SAINt JHN’s ‘Roses’ continues to storm up the chart. After jumping 18 spots last week, it’s up five this week, hitting the Top Ten for the first time. It remains at #2 in the UK.

#15: Sam Smith ‘To Die For’ – After dropping to #26 last week, Sam Smith’s ‘To Die For’ recovers to move up eleven spots and claim a new peak at #15.

#17: Tame Impala ‘The Less I Know The Better’ – Multi-ARIA-winners Tame Impala score their first ever appearance in the Singles Chart Top 50 as ‘The Less I Know The Better’ races to #17. Originally featuring on the group’s third album, Currents (#1 Jul. ’15), its surge up the chart comes after it topped Triple J’s Hottest 100 of the 2010s, which was broadcast on 14 March. On first release in February 2016, the single peaked at #66. Tame Impala’s newest album, ‘The Slow Rush’, hit number #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart last month, and is at #15 this week.

#18: Tones And I ‘Bad Child’ – Tones And I returns with her first new single for 2020, ‘Bad Child’. It was released as a double A-side along with ‘Can’t Be Happy All the Time’. 2019 was a bumper year for the artist also known as Toni Watson: after making her chart debut in May with ‘Johnny Run Away’ (#12 Jun. ’19), she went on to spend a record-busting 24 weeks at #1 with ‘Dance Monkey’ (#1 Aug. ’19) and took home four ARIA Awards, including Best Female Artist and Breakthrough Artist. ‘Dance Monkey’ remains at #8 this week and has spent 41 weeks in the ARIA Singles Chart. Another Tones And I single, ‘Never Seen The Rain’, is at #21 this week.

Albums Chartifacts:

#1: Various ‘Artists Unite For Fire Fight’ – The live album Artists Unite For Fire Fight debuts at #1 on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart. Recorded during the Fire Fight concert at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on 16 February, the album includes songs by every artist who performed on the day including Amy Shark, Grinspoon, Conrad Sewell, Hilltop Hoods, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Queen + Adam Lambert, John Farnham & Olivia Newton-John and more. Proceeds raised by the album will go towards bushfire relief.

#2: Niall Horan ‘Heartbreak Weather’ – Former One Direction member Niall Horan releases Heartbreak Weather, his second solo album. It’s Horan’s second album to debut at #2 after Flicker (#2 Oct. 17). Horan’s debut album was certified Gold. He has Australian tour dates set for September/October.

#6: Adam Brand ‘Speed Of Life’ – Australian country star Adam Brand releases his 15th studio album, Speed Of Life. It’s the singer-songwriter’s first studio album since Get On Your Feet (#7 Feb. ’17) and his sixth album to hit the ARIA Top Ten. Between albums Brand put out the career-spanning set Milestones…20 Years (#6 Jul. ’18).

#8: Ocean Grove ‘Flip Phone Fantasy’ – Melbourne nu-metal band Ocean Grove score their second Top Ten with Flip Phone Fantasy. Their second album follows debut The Rhapsody Tapes (#5 Feb. 17). Since their first album, the band have experienced several line-up changes, including bassist Dale Tanner taking over as lead vocalist. It was revealed this week that one of the band’s members has tested positive for COVID-19. Flip Phone Fantasy is also #1 on this week’s Vinyl Album Chart.

#10: Fanny Lumsden ‘Fallow’ – Country singer-songwriter Fanny Lumsden makes her first appearance in the Albums Chart Top Ten with Fallow. Lumsden’s third album takes over from Real Class Act (#23 Oct. ’17) as her highest peak on the chart. Both her previous albums have been nominated for the ARIA Award for Best Country Album.

#14: Kingswood ‘Juveniles’ – Kingswood returns with Juveniles. The third album from the Melbourne rockers comes three years on from After Hours, Close To Dawn (#10 Mar. ’17). To date, their highest chart peak was reached with their debut Microscopic Wars (#6 Sept.’14). Juveniles is #2 on the Vinyl Albums Chart this week.
