Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: Tones And I ‘Dance Monkey’ – It’s been another huge week for Tones And I, who performed ‘Dance Monkey’ at the 2019 ARIA Awards and collected trophies for Best Female, Best Pop Release, Breakthrough Artist and Best Independent Release at the event. The song she was celebrated for, ‘Dance Monkey’ extends its record for longest-running #1 single in ARIA Charts history by notching up an #18th week in the top position. Meanwhile, her latest single ‘Never Seen The Rain’ rises one place to a new peak of #9.

#20: Harry Styles ‘Watermelon Sugar’ – This week’s biggest mover, Harry Styles’ ‘Watermelon Sugar’ leaps 10 spots to crack the Top 20 for the first time. The is the second single from the former One Direction member’s forthcoming second solo album Fine Line, following ‘Lights Up’, which peaked at #7 in October and this week drops six places to #33.

#24. Lewis Capaldi ‘Before You Go’ – Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi enters the Top 50 for the second time in 2019 with ‘Before You Go’, which appears on the extended edition of his debut studio album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent. His previous single, ‘Someone You Loved’ peaked at #4 in June and this week rises one place to #14.

#35: Khalid ‘Up All Night’ – Fresh from performing his hit ‘Talk’ (#4 Apr. ‘19) at the ARIA Awards, Khalid enters the Singles Chart for a fifth time as lead vocalist this year with ‘Up All Night’. The US singer appears twice more in the Top 50 this week, with features on Ed Sheeran’s ‘Beautiful People’, which sits at #25, and Benny Blanco’s ‘Eastside’, also featuring Halsey, which is at #42.

#37: Ant Saunders ‘Yellow Hearts’ – US singer Ant Saunders enters the Top 50 for the first time with ‘Yellow Hearts’, which originally gained traction on TikTok and topped Spotify’s Global Viral 50 chart in June of this year. The 18-year-old US singer writes, records and produces his own music and recently signed with Arista Records.

Albums Chartifacts:

#1: Coldplay ‘Everyday Life’ – Coldplay score their sixth chart-topper with double album Everyday Life, returning to the summit for the first time since Ghost Stories debuted at #1 in May 2014. Of the English band’s eight studio albums, the only two not to peak in the top spot are Parachutes (#2 Feb. ‘01) and A Head Full Of Dreams (#2 Dec ‘15). Comprising 16 tracks, Everyday Lifeis divided into two sections: Sunrise and Sunset, but don’t expect the English band to play their new material in Australia anytime soon, as they’ve cited environmental concerns for prompting them to abstain from international touring.

#2: Robbie Williams ‘The Christmas Present’ – Robbie Williams makes his 13th appearance in the Albums Chart Top 10 with his follow-up to The Heavy Entertainment Show (#4 Nov. ‘16). Comprising originals and cover versions of festive classics, the UK superstar’s first Christmas album features guest vocalists Tyson Fury, Rod Stewart, Jamie Cullum, Helene Fischer and Bryan Adams.

#3: Rod Stewart & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra ‘You’re In My Heart’ – Rod Stewart enters the Top 50 for a 24th time with You’re In My Heart, which pairs classic vocal tracks from Stewart’s biggest hits with arrangements performed by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Also included on the album is new track ‘Stop Loving Her Today’ and a new version of ‘It Takes Two’ with Robbie Williams.

#10: Human Nature ‘Still Telling Everybody: 30 Years Of Hits’ – In a week of milestones, Human Nature celebrated 30 years as a band and were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame at the 2019 ARIA Awards, where they also performed a medley of their biggest hits. Still Telling Everybody features highlights from their career, which has encompassed 11 previous Top 10 albums including most recent Romance Of The Jukebox, which debuted at #2 in August 2018.

#11: Leonard Cohen ‘Thanks For The Dance’ – Leonard Cohen’s 15th studio album and the first to be released since his death in November 2016, Thanks For The Dance becomes the legendary singer-songwriter’s eighth entry into the Top 50. Cohen recorded the album’s vocal tracks during the same recording sessions for his previous LP, You Want It Darker (#2 Nov. ‘16), with instrumentation provided later by musicians including Daniel Lanois, Beck, Jennifer Warnes, Damien Rice and Leslie Feist.

#14: The Teskey Brothers ‘Run Home Slow’ – The Teskey Brothers’ second LP re-enters the Top 50 after being awarded Best Blues & Roots Album at the 2019 ARIA Awards, where they delivered a stunning performance of their track ‘Rain’. On the strength of Run Home Slow, which debuted at #2 in August of this year, the Melbourne band also collected ARIAs for Best Group and Engineer of the Year, making it three wins from seven nominations.
