Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: The Weeknd ‘Blinding Lights’ – Canadian artist The Weeknd maintains his hold of the #1 spot on the ARIA Singles Chart for a fifth week with ‘Blinding Lights’. This week The Weeknd announced that his forthcoming fourth album ‘After Hours’ will be released on 20 March.

#3: Justin Bieber Feat. Quavo ‘Intentions’ – With the release of new album Changes, Justin Bieber also gets a boost on the Singles Chart. ‘Intentions’ has jumped ten spots to #3 in its second week on the chart. Previous single ‘Yummy’ has also moved back into the Top Ten at #8. A new single, ‘Forever’ has debuted at #29.

#4: Billie EiIish ‘No Time To Die’ – Billie Eilish picks up her ninth Top Ten single on the ARIA Charts with ‘No Time To Die’. It is the title theme to the upcoming James Bond film, which will hit cinemas in April. It is the highest ever charting position for a James Bond theme song in ARIA history. ‘No Time To Die’ narrowly beats previous Bond hits ‘Skyfall’ by Adele (#5 Oct. ’12), ‘Die Another Day’ by Madonna (#5 Nov. ’02) and ‘A View To A Kill’ by Duran Duran (#6 Jul. ‘85). She recently performed the song with composer Hans Zimmer and guitarist Johnny Marr at the Brit Awards.

#32: Sam Smith ‘To Die For’ – Sam Smith releases ‘To Die For’, the title track to the British artist’s forthcoming third album. It’s the fourth single from To Die Forafter ‘Promises’ (#4 Sept. ’18), ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ (#6 Mar. ’19) and ‘How Do You Sleep?’ (#10 Oct. ’19). The album is set for release on 1 May.

Albums Chartifacts:

#1: Tame Impala ‘The Slow Rush’ – Two-time ARIA Album Of The Year winners Tame Impala claim their second #1 on the Albums Chart with fourth album The Slow Rush. It’s the first studio release from the Perth act fronted by songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer Kevin Parker since their first #1 Currents (Jul. ’15). Between Tame Impala albums, Parker contributed to Lady Gaga’s Joanne (#2 Oct. ’16), Kanye West’s ye (#1 Jun. ’18) and Travis Scott’s Astroworld (#1 Aug. ’18), as well as co-producing Pond’s The Weather (#33 May ’17) and Tasmania (#15 Mar. ’19).

On hearing the news, Kevin Parker said: “Thank you Australia… I love yous.”

The Slow Rush is the second Australian #1 album for 2020.

#2: Justin Bieber ‘Changes’ – Returning with Changes, his first album in five years, Justin Bieber takes out his sixth Top Ten on the ARIA Albums Chart. The follow-up to Purpose (#1 Nov. ’15) includes collaborations with Quavo, Post Malone, Kehlani, Travis Scott and more. Changes features the singles ‘Yummy’ (#4 Jan. 20), ‘Intentions’ (#3 Feb. ’20), and the newly-charted ‘Forever’ (#29 Feb. ’20).

#7: Queen ‘Bohemian Rhapsody (The Original Soundtrack)’ – Queen experience a significant boost on this week’s chart on the back of their national tour and their appearance at the Fire Fight benefit concert. The Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack jumps back into the Top Ten at #7, while Greatest Hits and The Platinum Collection re-enter the chart at #18 and #35, respectively.

#12: Lewis Capaldi ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ – In its 40th week in the Top 50, Lewis Capaldi’s debut album moves up four to #12. This week, the Scottish singer-songwriter won Song Of The Year and Best New Artist at the Brit Awards.

#31: Hilltop Hoods ‘The Great Expanse’ – Adelaide’s Hilltop Hoods also get a boost post-Fire Fight, with two former #1 albums re-appearing in the Top 50: The Great Expanse at #31 and Drinking From The Sun, Walking Under Stars Restrung at #44.
