Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: Tones And I ‘Dance Monkey’ – Off the back of Tones And I’s performance and four wins at the 2019 ARIA Awards, ‘Dance Monkey’ continues its record-breaking run with a 19th week atop the Singles Chart. Meanwhile, her follow-up single ‘Never Seen The Rain’ rises one spot to a new peak of #8.

#3: Dua Lipa ‘Don’t Start Now’ – Buoyed by Dua Lipa’s Australian promotional visit, during which she performed at the ARIA Awards, ‘Don’t Start Now’ moves up from #7 to hit a new peak on the Singles Chart. This is Lipa’s third track to reach the Top 3, following ‘IDGAF’ (#3 Apr. ‘18) and ‘New Rules’ (#2 Sep. ‘17).

#10: The Weeknd ‘Heartless’ – Canadian singer The Weeknd scores his seventh Top 10 hit with ‘Heartless’, the lead single from his upcoming fourth studio album. Meanwhile, second single ‘Blinding Lights’ enters the chart at #16.

#20: Mariah Carey ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ – Mariah Carey re-enters the Singles Chart with her 5x Platinum certified Christmas classic, which debuted at #46 in November 1994 and peaked at #2 during its initial seven-week chart run. It was then absent from the Top 50 until streaming services began to have an impact on the charts in 2012, returning each festive season since and peaking at #1 in December 2018.

#38 Wham! ‘Last Christmas’ – Another regular on holiday playlists, Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’ returns to the Singles Chart and earns certification of 3x Platinum in the process. The track has received additional promotion this year as a result of its inclusion in the recently released feature film of the same name, alongside other songs by Wham! and George Michael.

Albums Chartifacts:

#1: Robbie Williams ‘The Christmas Present’ – Robbie Williams rises one place to score his first #1 album since 2009’s Reality Killed The Video Star, and his fourth chart-topper overall as a solo artist. The UK superstar’s other albums to reach the summit are Rudebox (#1 Oct. ‘06), Intensive Care (#1 Oct. ‘05) and Greatest Hits (#1 Dec. ‘04).

#2: Frozen 2 Soundtrack – This week’s biggest mover, the Frozen 2 Soundtrack leaps 22 places in its third week on the ARIA Charts, after opening in cinemas nationwide. The sequel to the 2013 Disney blockbuster features seven new tracks, three of which are covered for the closing credits by Kacey Musgraves, Weezer and Panic! At The Disco, respectively. The soundtrack to the original movie peaked at #1 in May 2014, five months after its release.

#3: Human Nature ‘Still Telling Everybody: 30 Years Of Hits’ – With continuing buzz around their ARIA Hall of Fame induction and medley performance at this year’s awards, Human Nature’s best-of compilation rises after debuting at #10 last week. Still Telling Everybody features highlights from the group’s career, right back to their first album Telling Everybody, which was released in December 1996 and peaked at #7 the following January. Since their debut, the Las Vegas stalwarts have spent 348 weeks on the Albums Chart.

#6: Michael Buble ‘Christmas’ – Perennial favourite Christmas by Michael Buble leaps 13 spots to return to the Top Ten, where it has landed each festive season since it debuted at #2 in December 2011. The album reached #1 in its second week of release and has repeated that feat in five separate years since, in the process earning certification of 13x Platinum.

#19: Mariah Carey ‘Merry Christmas’ – Twenty-five years after it was originally released, Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas jumps 17 places this week. The holiday staple peaked at #2 in December 1994 and has hit the Top 30 every Yuletide since but is yet to return to the Top Ten.

#37: Hilltop Hoods ‘The Great Expanse’ – Hilltop Hoods’ latest album jumps 13 places following their win for Best Australian Live Act at the 2019 ARIA Awards, where they also received nominations for Best Group, Best Hip Hop Release and Album of the Year. The Great Expanse debuted at #1 in March of this year, becoming the Aussie hip hop group’s sixth chart-topper.

#39: The Teskey Brothers ‘Half Mile Harvest’ – The debut album by The Teskey Brothers returns to the Top 50 following their successful night at the 2019 ARIA Awards. The Aussie soul group received trophies for Best Group, Best Blues & Roots Album and Engineer of the Year for their second album, Run Home Slow, which this week falls one place to #15.
