Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: Tones And I ‘Dance Monkey’ – Tones And I holds #1 for a sixth consecutive week on the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Dance Monkey’. The single moves into equal second for most weeks a #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart by an Australian female solo artist, joining Kylie Minogue’s ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ (#1 Mar. ’88) and Merril Bainbridge’s ‘Mouth’ (#1 May ’95). If ‘Dance Monkey’ continues to top next week, it will equal Kylie Minogue’s ‘Locomotion’ (#1 Aug. ’87), who holds the record with seven weeks. The track has also reached number 1 in several markets around the world, including Norway, Sweden, Finland and Ireland.

#5: Post Malone ‘Circles’ – Post Malone takes out his ninth Top Ten entry on the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Circles’. The track was released at the same time the American hip hop artist announced his third album, Hollywood’s Bleeding(which was released on 6 September). It’s the fourth track from the album to chart after ‘Sunflower’ (#1 Jan. ’19), ‘Wow.’ (#5 Jul. ’19) and ‘Goodbyes’ (#5 Jul. ’19).

#17: 5 Seconds Of Summer ‘Teeth’ – After debuting at #30 last week, 5 Second Of Summer’s new single ‘Teeth’ has jumped up 13 spots to hit #17 this week. As well as featuring guitar work by Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, the track gives writing credits to the members of iconic Manchester band New Order.

#28: Normani ‘Motivation’ – Normani’s ‘Motivation’ climbs seven spots to hit #28 in its third week in the Top 50. The track was co-written by, among others, Ariana Grande and legendary Swedish songwriter/producer Max Martin.

#32: Lizzo ‘Good As Hell’ – American star Lizzo scores her second Singles Chart entry with ‘Good As Hell’. Like ‘Truth Hurts’ (#18 Jul. ’19), it’s an older track by the singer-songwriter, having first been released in 2016 on the EP Coconut Oil. ‘Good As Hell’ has recently gained traction after being performed by Lizzo at the MTV Video Music Awards.

#1: Tool ‘Fear Inoculum’ – Releasing their first album in 13 years, American alternative metal band Tool score their third #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Fear Inoculum is Tool’s fifth studio album and the follow-up to 10,000 Days (#1 May ’06). In the lead-up to the release of the new album, the band released their back catalogue onto digital services for the first time, leading to them scoring five entries on the Top 50 back in August. Tool first hit #1 with Lateralus (#1 May ’01).

#3: Tones And I ‘The Kids Are Coming – EP’ – Singles Chart chart-topper Tones And I makes her Albums Chart debut with The Kids Are Coming. The Byron Bay artist’s debut EP features the #1 single ‘Dance Monkey’, as well as ‘Johnny Run Away’ (#12 Jun. ’19) and ‘Never Seen The Rain’ (#21 Aug. ’19), plus three new tracks. The EP has also appeared in the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart at #5.

#4: Lana Del Rey ‘Norman F**King Rockwell!’ – Lana Del Rey picks up her fifth Top Five entry with sixth album, Norman F**King Rockwell! The American singer-songwriter’s previous four albums all hit #1 on the ARIA Charts: Born To Die (#1 Feb. ’12), Ultraviolence (#1 Jun. ’14), Honeymoon (#1 Sept. ’15) and Lust For Life (#1 Jul. ’17).

#6: G Flip ‘About Us’ – Melbourne’s G Flip scores her Albums Chart debut with About Us. It’s the debut album from singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Georgia Flipo and features all the singles she released during 2018 and 2019. She’ll be touring nationally in November in support of the album. About Us is #1 on this week’s ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart.

#13: Lil Tecca ‘We Love You Tecca’ – American rapper Lil Tecca releases his debut mixtape We Love You Tecca. His first release to appear on the Albums Chart includes current single ‘Ransom’ (#8 Aug. ’19), which reached #5 in the US.
