Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: Ariana Grande ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ (Debut) – American artist Ariana Grande picks up her first #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘No Tears Left To Cry’. The track is the first released from Grande’s forthcoming fourth studio album. It’s her first appearance in the Top 50 since ‘Side To Side’ (#3 Sept. ’16). ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ takes over from ‘Problem’ (#2 May ’14) as Grande’s highest Singles Chart peak. She has previously topped the Albums Chart with both My Everything (#1 Sept. ’14) and Dangerous Woman (#1 May ’16).

#6: Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa ‘One Kiss’ – In its third week in the Top 50, ‘One Kiss’ moves up three spots to claim a new peak at #6.

#14: Avicii ‘Wake Me Up’ – Following the passing of Avicii last week four of his tracks have re-entered the Singles Chart. As well as hitting #14 with former #1 ‘Wake Me Up’, the Swedish DJ/producer has also returned to the chart with ‘Levels’ (#24), ‘Without You’ (#36) and ‘Hey Brother’ (#38).

#20: J. Cole ‘KOD’ (Debut)– As well as having the #1 on this week’s Albums Chart, American hip hop artist J. Cole has snared five debuts in this week’s Singles Chart. KOD’s title track is the highest debut, hitting #20. Further debuts come with ‘ATM’ (#32), ‘Photograph’ (#41), ‘Kevin’s Heart’ (#46) and ‘Motiv8’ (#47). J. Cole’s only Top 50 as a lead artist previously was with ‘Deja Vu’ (#45 Dec. ’16). 

#27: Anne-Marie ‘2002’ (Debut)– In the week leading up to the release of her debut album, Speak Your Mind, English singer-songwriter Anne-Marie scores a new chart entry with ‘2002’. It’s the third track from the album to hit the Top 50 following ‘Alarm’ (#7 Aug. ’16) and the Marshmello collaboration ‘Friends’ (#4 Apr. ’18).

#1: J. Cole ‘KOD’ (Debut) – American hip hop artist J. Cole scores his first ever #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with KOD. Cole’s fifth album is the follow-up to 4 Your Eyez Only (#6 Dec. ’16). Five tracks from KOD have debuted in the ARIA Top 50 this week: ‘KOD’ (#20), ‘ATM’ (#32), ‘Photograph’ (#41), ‘Kevin’s Heart’ (#46) and ‘Motiv8’ (#47).

#2: A Perfect Circle ‘Eat The Elephant’ (Debut) – A Perfect Circle return with their fourth studio album and first in 14 yearsEat The Elephant. The American band, who reactivated in 2010, previously charted in the Top Ten with Mer De Noms (#2 May ’00), Thirteenth Step (#3 Sept. ’03) and Emotive (#8 Nov. ’04).

#6: Samantha Jade ‘Best Of My Love’ (Debut)– Samantha Jade takes on disco classics on Best Of My Love. It’s the former X Factor winner’s third album and comes three years on from Nine (#11 Nov. ’15). The new album features songs made famous by Donna Summer, Diana Ross, ABBA, Sister Sledge and more.

#13: Avicii ‘True’ – Avicii’s debut album re-enters the Albums Chart at #13 following the Swedish DJ/producer’s passing at the age of 28. True spent one week at #1 in February 2014. Further down the chart, Avicii has also re-entered with second album Stories (#39) and the EP Avici (#41).

#18: Pennywise ‘Never Gonna Die’ (Debut)– Veteran punks Pennywise release their twelfth album Never Gonna Die. It’s the Californian’s ninth appearance in the ARIA Top 50 and first sinceYesterdays (#16 Jul. ’14). To date, Pennywise’s highest peak has been with Straight Ahead (#8 Jun. ’99).
