Port Fairy Folk Festival today revealed international folk legends will form the 2020 line-up, in the first artist announcement for the popular music event taking place on the March long weekend.

Hailing from the United States, The Blind Boys of Alabama, John McCutcheon and Patty Griffin will perform alongside Britain’s YolanDa Brown, Ireland’s Eleanor McEvoy, and our very own C.W. Stoneking and The Maes.

Program Director Caroline Moore said: “What a line-up we have in store for our 44th festival. I am delighted to announce these renowned artists for our next festival in March, which will also be filled with special events, family activities, and non-stop musical entertainment. This is a festival for every music lover – from the young to the young at heart.’’

On the back of their new album, Work to Do, The Blind Boys of Alabama will bring their sounds of the American south to the Port Fairy stage almost seven decades since the iconic band first began singing together. Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, much-loved John McCutcheon will present a special Pete Seeger Session, in addition to his signature concerts which exemplify the folk tradition, and Patty Griffin arrives fresh from her European tour and album release.

British saxophonist YolanDa Brown will bring her sublime jazz-folk rhythms and entertaining children’s musical performances to the festival and acclaimed Irish artist Eleanor McEvoy makes a welcomed return to Port Fairy. The renowned C.W. Stoneking will perform his 1920s pre-war blues sound on his classic guitars and former emerging Port Fairy Artists of the Year 2014 The Maes, featuring sisters Maggie and Elsie Rigby and Monique Clare return from taking Europe and Canada by storm and will play new music from their 2019 self-titled album.

From 6-9 March 2020, thousands of music lovers will descend upon the Victorian scenic coastal town for the 44th Port Fairy Folk Festival which will feature a joyful line-up of artists representing folk music from around the world.
