Top 5 Photos Of The Week

Week 9

Checkout earlier weeks results below.

By Dave Bruce, CEO

Just as it sounds, we thought it was time to start highlighting some of the great work done by our Amnplify Photographers each week. Every week, photos will be submitted, a “Top 5” will be selected and voted on, and one photo will be given the title of our “Photo Of The Week”. Just a little recognition for a photographer who has a goal to shoot impeccably.

The truth is we have thousands of photos posted each month and most of our photographers should get an award for their work. Live Music Photography is a skill like no other. Whether you are squashed into a pit or roaming through the crowd for “The Shot”, the photographer usually has little time and on many occasions poor light to deal with, not to mention the usually “charged” crowd taking every “perfect” spot. In my eyes, they are experts in their field and often unseen and unheard. Over time, we want to change that a little.

Enjoy the photos, and checkout more of their work.

Steven Cook

Steven Cook

I’m Steven Cook, a 23 year old Adelaide based music photographer, I’ve been shooting gigs for a little bit over 2 years now!

“I’m always hyped to shoot Hindsight as they’re one of my favourite bands, I knew things would be a little bit crazy as they usually are when Hindsight plays but it was absolute insanity! I think at the point of this photo I was half standing on the stage because I got pushed and shoved up there! All in all this is probably one of my favourite images I’ve ever captured! Shot on a Canon 5DMK4 with the Canon 8-15mm f4 fisheye. 1/200, F4, ISO 4000″

Anne-Laure Marie

Anne-Laure

Anne-Laure is a french Melbourne based events and live music photographer. Passionate about music, there is hardly a week when she is not at a gig or festival, in the pit shooting her favorite artists.

“This is a picture of The Pink Slips taken during Download Festival France that took place mid-June. Grace McKagan aka Grave had a special and expressive energy, resulting in moving around and adopting intense looks and special postures.”

Stuart Bucknell

I’m a Sydney based photographer who first started shooting music in 2011.  Since that time, I’ve shot concerts and festivals all over the country – particularly since I joined AMNplify.  I love being able to capture that special energy that you get from a live performance in front of an enthusiastic crowd – those moments where the fans get to share something with the bands they love. It’s all about the adrenaline and the passion for me; as well as the challenge of catching that perfect shot.

“This was my first time seeing Lillye perform, but I already knew the reputation of their lead singer Virginia and her stunning voice. I was lucky enough to meet her and the rest of the band in person after the show, and they’re a lovely, friendly group of people as well as extremely talented.”

Allan Allport

I was on my way to a Big Day Out back in the day, when my little point and shoot camera fell out of my car at a fuel station somewhere and was never seen again. Luckily my friend had an old SLR he didn’t want anymore and the next thing I know, I’m dragging it around to little clubs to take snaps of some of my favourite bands. I’ve been lucky enough to meet and photograph some of my favourite bands since then. I’ll sling my camera wherever I get a chance, no matter what the genre of music, but more often than not you’ll find me singing along and fist-pumping to some of the faster and heavier bands.

“Despite being Brisbane locals, I had never seen Waax before (I know, poor form) but I heard rumours of their amazing and energetic live show. Normally at Eatons Hill I shoot with a longer lens and sit a little to the side due to the higher stage and cramped security area. However as I was transitioning from one side to the other I saw Marie take a break (at least in her own way) and use the microphone stand. I keep a second, older camera body with a wide-angle lens on it, just in case there’s a moment like this. I took 2 quick snaps on my way through, trying to line up the lights in a sunburst way behind her head. She was only there for a few seconds before resuming her amazing and energetic frenzy across all corners of the stage. Only once I was back in the crowd and reviewing my photos did I see I managed to get the lights lined up perfectly for this snap!”

Megan Carew

Megan Carew

I am a freelance photographer living in Sydney Australia. I have a deep love of indie music, spoken word poetry and live dance. Photography has allowed me to capture some amazing, unique and unrepeatable moments of expression and artistry from these communities. Having immersed myself in these worlds over the years has humbled me in many ways, I am constantly exposed to new and exciting modes of expression, inspiring creation, brave and venerable stories. I am also humbled and honoured to call many artists and members of these communities friends. I am constantly inspired by them to grow my own skills and be more creative in the way I tell a story through my own medium. I cannot imagine doing anything else.

“This shot of Nicole Millar is from her Sydney Oxford Art factory gig last month. The onstage lighting was difficult to shoot, so I decided to play around with multiple in camera exposures for something a bit more interesting. I love playing with angles and pushing the boundaries of the standard music photography style.”
