Who’s ready for 2018’s biggest pop music return?

Global superstar Ariana Grande is finally back to bless our ears with her new single ‘No Tears Left to Cry’, which will serve as the lead single to her upcoming fourth studio album. After an extensive social media hiatus since New Years, Ariana spent the lead up to the new release promoting its cover art and lyrics on social media and other major outlets such as billboards. Ariana rose to worldwide prominence as the beloved Cat Valentine on Nickelodeon’s hit television show Victorious. Fast forward a few years, the songstress gained her huge solo break in 2014 with the release of her track Problem featuring Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, breaking iTunes records for charting number one in 79 countries. Since then the starlet has gone on to gain major worldwide success with three hit studio albums under her belt including tracks such as Break Free, Into You and Side to Side with Nicki Minaj. Ariana took a hiatus in May 2017 after the Manchester Arena bombing that occurred during her Dangerous Woman Tour, now returning stronger than ever.

The instrumental to the track begins quite slowly which had me believing it would be a ballad. The slow beginning highlights the tone of Ariana’s vocals and automatically gives listeners confirmation that her renowned voice is still very well intact. Fifteen seconds in and the beat begins to pick itself up, transitioning unexpectedly but smoothly into an energetic, bouncy pop tempo. Its uplifting nature stays consistent throughout the whole track with noticeable instruments such as a dominant drumbeat that keeps the track alive. The songstress uses a diverse range of vocals that truly captures the depth of the track. The chorus is used for those powerful high notes that we all love Ariana for, in which then she uses the verses to be more playful.

The lyrics of the track focus immensely on positivity. Majority of the lyrics relate to Ariana’s experience after the Manchester Arena bombing and how she’s trying to use a different mentality to get past the hurt and pain of the attacks. Within the second verse, the starlet sings “We way to fly to partake in all this hate”, using the track to send out a message to those affected by the attacks in Manchester to not give into fear and hate. She emphasises in the chorus that she wants her listeners to follow her on a journey of using love to defeat all with a refreshed mentality as she literally has No Tears Left to Cry. The lyrics truly serve as a influential masterpiece that ultimately has the power to bring light into any individuals dark day.

In a pop world without Ariana the last year, who knew she’d bring more than just sunshine back into the music scene. The importance of this track does not only persuade listeners to become more optimistic in times of grief, but has a message that proves to be of pure love as the track broke Ariana’s previous iTunes record and reached number one in 85 countries. It’s an uplifting, addictive track that is going to make you turn it up to full blast every time it pops up on the radio, that’s for sure. As Ariana makes quite evident in this track, there’s literally No Tears Left to Cry as this single is exactly what 2018 needed. Get ready for the return of one of pop music’s greatest talents, as she’s back to slay with the anticipation of her next studio album, coming your way later this year.
