“There is something deeply infectious about Chris Assaad. His music, yes; his easy style, yes; but it is more than that. Chris Assaad has a zest for life and it is this that makes you want to hear more about both the man and the music… – Shayne Locke / Soul Traveller Radio

Ben Harper – Live From Mars (Side 2)
This is where it all began for me. When i first heard Live From Mars (Side 2) something was ignited in me. I spent countless hours poring over these live performances of Ben’s songs, raw, stripped down and acoustic, just guitar and voice, learning them note for note. Ben was one of my first teachers and earliest influences, teaching me so much about the power of music with this collection.

.

Jack Johnson – Brushfire Fairytales
The very first offering from an artist that was also a huge influence on my artist journey and my first musical explorations. When i first heard it, it had a freshness and easiness to it that got me instantly hooked. I jammed a lot of these songs on my first ever backpacking trip to Europe and it will always remind me of those early days of sharing songs and how music could bring people together and lift people up.

.

Mason Jennings – Century Spring
An uplifting and heart-opening album of beautifully crafted songs. Mason is one of my favourite storytellers and lyricists, without a doubt. This album has a special place in my heart because it was the soundtrack of a very significant time in my life, when i was getting to ready to take the leap of faith, leave behind the certainty of a corporate career and pursue my passion for music.

.

Bob Marley – Rastaman Vibration
Classic Bob and some of his most powerful, lesser known songs. A must listen for any fans of Mr. Marley, a true soul rebel and legend. I loved this record so much that I when I lost my first copy, I bought it again (this is back in the CD days!).

.

A Deeper Light by Deva Premal & Miten
Groovy, sensual dub vibes combined with Deva Premal & Miten’s divine vocals and potent mantra-based lyrics. A perfect record to flow to, and to accompany a conscious movement practice.

CANADA’S

CHRIS ASSAAD

announces Australian

‘Not Just A Concert’

shows to celebrate new single

“Sensitive Soul”

.

Canadian based Chris Assaad has just released his new single “Sensitive Soul” with producer Mitch Girio, and to celebrate he’s arriving in Australia next month for his ‘NOT JUST A CONCERT’ performances! Playing the Gold Coast and Sydney, fans will be able to experience Chris in an intimate and interactive evening of music, storytelling and inspiring conversation.

Chris has toured his music extensively sharing his eclectic blend of soulful roots music, heart-opening songs and stories with audiences in Canada, Australia, the US and Europe. Chris has appeared at a number of club and festival dates from Mountain Jam in New York to The Espy in Melbourne to Midem in Cannes. After seeing a YouTube cover of one of his yet to be released songs, Michael Franti invited Chris to join him on stage to jam on the song during his One Heart One Soul tour in California and Chris recently opened for Trevor Hall on a string of West Coast Canadian dates on The Fruitful Darkeness Tour.

“I believe we are all sensitive souls, meaning that we are highly sentient beings. Some are more willing to peel back the layers and truly FEEL all of the range of emotions and all that comes with the human experience. This song was written for those who often feel overwhelmed with the inherent challenges of being human and feeling so deeply, as an invitation to stop fighting, to be gentle with ourselves and to release what pains us, letting it be washed away by the music, the melodies and the images.” – Chris Assaad on “Sensitive Soul”

The music video, due out next week, was captured in a playful and laid back shoot with Chris’s favourite video director and long time collaborator, Pavel Safonov. The video was shot in Topanga Canyon and Malibu along the Pacific Crest Highway in LA. Chris had developed a love for writing words in the sand and watching them be washed away. He shared the idea with Pavel who loved it and the two collaborated the evening before the shoot on a story and concept for the video. The idea to get the last shot with Chris being washed over in the ocean happened on the spot and was a one take capture and the very last one of the shoot.

While music has always been a passion of Chris’, songwriting and performing are not where he made his start in the music industry. After obtaining a law degree, Chris was offered a highly coveted entertainment law position in Toronto. Being mentored by one of the top entertainment lawyers in Canada and sitting in on meetings with some of the country’s biggest artists further fueled Chris’ passion and he made the decision to pursue a career in music.

Chris is also a prolific writer. He’s been a regularly contributor on platforms such as Positively Positive & Project Happiness, and recently joined Portland-based Conscious MagazineFace The Current as their new Music Content CuratorChris’ other passion and gift is supporting others on their creative and spiritual paths as a guide, mentor and facilitator.
