Here’s what critics had to say in response to ‘Love Myself’:

‘DAMIEN perfectly combines sassy, self-assured vocals with an uplifting message and brazen melodics in ‘Love Myself’. The assured, confident and independent blast of his vocals boosts your confidence.’ – The Otherside Reviews

‘Love Myself’ is a pleasure and must for fans of the genre (darkwave) as well as music enthusiasts in general’ – Nenes Butler

‘Australian artist DAMIEN excels in industrial darkwave’ – Homecooking Share

‘(Love Myself) is a song with a powerful message but is absent of any unwelcome moralizing, a treat for the ears and nourishment for the soul.’ – Rising Artists.

“”Human” is a deep dive of industrial rock and darkwave that counsels us to pursue truth through showing compassion, love and empathy towards each other.”

Just in time for the holidays comes the most unlikely song to carry Christmas undertones, DAMIEN’s dark “Human”. Not a tooth aching Mariah Carey type Christmas song, “Human” is a deep dive of industrial rock and darkwave that counsels us to pursue truth through showing compassion, love and empathy towards each other.

This idea of embracing the divinity of humanity through being a good person was first in mind for DAMIEN. The fact “Human” will be released near the time of the Christian holidays, a time which celebrates the divine becoming human means that serendipitously the themes have aligned themselves. DAMIEN a queer, alt-electro-rock musician from Ipswich QLD burst onto the scene in 2020 and has released several singles and even an album in time. His music caught fans attention right off the mark with sell-out shows and acclaim for his energetic and inclusive performances.

“Human” follows on as the second single from his upcoming second album “Wrong Age. Wrong Race. Wrong Gender”. This follows on from the first single, a brooding heavy track called “Love Myself” and continues on the themes of identity, consciousness and humanity. In the vein of darkwave, the song features a contorted drum beat and coarse snare that vibrates with an anxious edge. Very reminiscent of early Nine Inch Nails or Marilyn Mason. DAMIEN sings with the vigour of a pastor sermonising from the pulpit. His directive and vocals cut clearly through the other production elements giving the listener something to focus on and given the message, that may have been DAMIEN’s goal. The juxtaposition of having the message of pursuing humanity against such an industrial sound, serves into the ideas of technology vs humanity and DAMIEN pulls it off with a deft hand.

For fans of music that pushes boundaries “Human” will entice and have you singing by songs end, “We can go forward, no we can’t go back. Another generation to come pick up the slack.”

“DAMIEN sings with the vigour of a pastor sermonising from the pulpit.”
