Melbourne jangle pop-rock quintet DIET. dropped a new single, Danny Boy on April 24th. Following on from their previous indie anthem Forget About It, DIET. show their ability to purvey 80’s style indie rock with 21st century pop sensibilities and production quality.

The heartfelt plea over the phone from one brother to another is the lyrical premise for Danny Boy, and is beautifully complemented by rueful instrumentation. The guitar is reminiscent of Alvvays with hints of the The Cure and The Smiths, triumphant synths that could eclipse those of City Calm Down and evocative vocals that sound as a hybrid of of Brandon Flowers of The Killers  and Jonathan Pierce of The Drums. DIET. have an incredible talent for making highly evocative, emotionally endearing and musically masterful tracks that will stick in your heard for days. Wistfully nostalgic lyrics with an upbeat tone throughout, with an absolutely delicious bridging guitar solo, Danny Boy shows DIET. as a band that will melt your heart and make you move your feet at the same time. It’s a strange feeling to feel a mournful yearning while you want to dance, but DIET. pull it off with poise.

DIET. have been touring extensively for the past year, with Sydney legends Polish Club in 2017, a tour with fellow Melbournians British India, and their own separate tour both kicking off this month, DIET. are going to be hitting the stage and pulling you in with their nostalgic, evocative and unique musical blend.
