Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the production bug?
No, actually for a while I was learning to be a chef. Music was always a side thing. I was 3 years into cheffing when things started to really pick up with the music stuff and it became hard to balance both. So I dropped the cheffing a followed my gut on the music stuff.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
That’s a tough question. I write so much different music I wouldn’t really say I have a specific sound. I really like everything and try and reflect that in what I write. I feel like people probably resonate with my stuff because I’m very myself in my music. It’s all the stuff I like and think it has something for everyone. I like to think people see that.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
There are quite a few that have really inspired me. Flume’s music is something I’m always playing in my downtime. His stuff baffles my brain and always inspires me to write something. I’m also a huge fan of Moody Good for some of the heavier inspiration. He’s got a very unique take on bass music.

Your debut album, Imposter Syndrome, came out recently – congrats! Describe its origin and evolution.
It all stemmed from being in quarantine. I found I was writing music without purpose and I really struggled to write for the sake of writing. I always want to have a plan or have something to be hyped on. Writing an album seemed like the logical thing to do with so much time on my hands. Plus I really felt I was at the point where an album made sense.
How is the tour coming along? Does it feel surreal to be back on the road? Any fun stories to tell?
It’s the craziest shit. Before I came to the US I was literally in lockdown for months not able to leave my house. To come over here where everything is back up and running and being able to tour again is so surreal. I’ve been having a ball.
How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
COVID really threw a spanner in the works for me. I was 2 weeks into a 10-week bus tour with Liquid Stranger and had to go home and go straight into lockdown where I sat for months on end. I also dealt with some family matters at same time which made everything super tough. I was lucky enough to be in Australia, though, where the government really looked after us financially and was able to continue writing music and honing in on a bunch of stuff I wanted to write and make.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
I would love to perform with Skrillex. I feel like the energy he brings to shows is unmatched. I would also love to do shows with like a Travis Scott or someone like that. I think combining the rap world with the bass music world is something that would help the whole scene grow.
Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
I have lots of goals for sure. One big one for me would be putting together a show where I have the budget to fully design the stage and make my show a full experience.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
I’ve had quite a few moments where I really reflected on how lucky I am to be in the position I am. Lost Lands recently was one of those. Playing at a sound camp and seeing people coming to my stage and really packing it out felt super special. But also playing a sold out hometown show was really special. It’s things where I see progression and things moving forward where I really reflect and try to take it in.
