Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
Yes I have! I started playing guitar and drums at a young age and by the time I was 12 my brother and my cousin were already writing songs so we collaborated and formed Joel Turner and the Modern Day Poets

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
My sound is a mix of melodic hiphop/Rnb but can change from track to track as I like to mix it up with the guitar and add beatbox. Some tracks have more of a rock vibe others have a Latin vibe and others have blues etc… I’m a very diverse artist. 
Givin I’m a beatboxer with a different style of Hip Hop, playing anything from life tracks to funky upbeat hip hop tracks. I guess most people resonate with my music and lyrics cause I’m a little different as an artist being a beatboxer/guitarist. “These Kids” was probably the biggest track most people have really resonated with and have been touched by, as the lyrics are about everyday life struggles that people live each and everyday. 

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today? 
My list would be huge as their is too many to name in many genres  but I would say…
Michael Jackson
Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and BB King to name a few. 

Your new single Mullet has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution. 
Let’s just say. Mullets have made a comeback and we wanted to write an anthem for everyone who loves or hates a Mullet. No hairstyle has copped more crap and it’s unbelievable how much controversy a hairstyle can make in todays society.  

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
Most definitely! You’ll be hearing much more new music in the near future!  

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
Yes! I’ll be updating my live gigs on all of my socials including insta,TikTok, Facebook etc

How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
Definitely took a hit when it came to live performances like every artist it affected. Just glad it’s all over, everything is open and happy to be back performing again.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why? 
I’d love to play guitar with Eric Clapton or George Benson as they’re both amazing guitarists.

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
I think if you can make a living doing what you love. Then you’ve achieved the ultimate dream. 

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Seeing people bop/scream/jump to my music and seeing the enjoyment on their faces. 
Some of my career highlights include performing onstage with Public Enemy, playing on tours like Xzibit, Slaughter House, D12 and De La Soul. Also performing live in front of 60 000 people on Australia Day live concert
