A spacious, glistening work with its new-age strings, Electric Sun sees Tiggi move away from her signature synth-infused slower pace to a pulsating upbeat, more bass-heavy approach. Tiggi is a renowned straight talker who shoots from the hip and sings from the heart. It is no wonder her creativity and undeniable talent has earned her support across Radio 1 and Kiss, as well as 8 million+ streams across Spotify and Apple Music.

Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the songwriting bug?
I definitely went through an astronaut stage when I was younger (who didn’t!) but since I was about 14 I had it in my head I wanted to be a musician. I started writing lyrics as an emotional outlet and then I was introduced to full on songwriting and I fell in love with it. It took a while for me to start my own artist project though, I spent a lot of time figuring out my sound with help from my amazing mentors and writing non-stop. I’m so glad I did, even though it was frustrating at the time because I just wanted to release music as quickly as possible!

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I think I would describe my music as alternative electro-pop, which I know is a quite a broad description but I like to explore all different influences in that genre, for example, I would say that Electric Sun leans towards the more dance-y spectrum of the electro-pop genre. I love experimenting within my sound! The most important part of my music, for me, is the potential connection I can make with people through my songs. When I write, it is almost always about something I’ve felt or experienced which I hope people can relate to when they hear my music.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
I adore the creativity of Björk’s shows and art, it’s literally like a psychedelic avatar- esque world that she brings you into. I’m in awe of the incredibly infectious, high energy shows that mega talents like Beyoncé and Halsey put on, dancing and singing is HARD and they make it look effortless and give out an amazing energy! I love how every artist does something a bit different when they either make music or perform. One performance that completely got me recently was Travis Scott’s Fortnite show, what an amazing way to use technology to share his music and connect in such a weird and difficult time. Incredible!

Your new single has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
I’m so excited about it!! I wrote Electric Sun with some incredibly talented people (Camden Cox, HAJ and Chris Avantgarde) on a writing camp, it all just came together and then the amazing Twin Lee added their touch too which was perfect! For me, Electric Sun is about my visits to Tokyo and the otherworldly feeling I get there, especially at night. It’s this kind of electric awake-ness and futuristic aesthetic that completely transports me and calls to me. I’ve never really felt it anywhere else so hopefully that comes across in the song and the lyrics.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
Currently there isn’t, sorry! I think we’re all trying to figure out the best way to release music at the moment and for me it’s about releasing singles as often as possible. I think it’s very personal though, what works for one person really might not suit another’s project, it’s really hard to tell!

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’ve got to be honest, I’m not sure at the moment! 2020 was FULL of gigs that I was really looking to but our good friend ‘rona crashed the party. At the moment, I’m hoping to start doing some gigs towards the end of the year (restrictions allowing of course) but failing that I will 100% be gigging my little heart out in 2021!

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
That is such a hard question! I’m a HUGE rock fan (thanks mum!) but if I could perform with anyone I think I’d have to choose Johnny Cash, his music and songwriting really influenced me when I was younger and if I could have met him (let alone perform with him!) I think I would’ve lost my mind a bit .

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
My current aspirations are to write and perform music as long as I possibly can! I really believe in the boundary-free connection you can make through music and I aim to continue trying to make those connections for the whole of my career. For me music has been completely transformative; lifting me up in my darkest moments and boosting me even higher in the great ones and if I can give that experience to even 1 person through my music, I’ll be happy.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
For me the best part about performing is the energy you can feel from a crowd, it totally feeds the performance and makes it unparalleled to anything else. It’s also the realisation of everything that goes into a song – the writing, the producing, rehearsals etc. It all comes together in gigs so it’s definitely a feeling of accomplishment too!

Finally, a few questions for some quick answers –
