The lonely creative process that often occurs through the late evenings until the early morn is the inspiration of Melbourne songwriter Minhy’s debut single “Dead Of The Night”.

Minhy is no stranger to long nights with the designer now songwriter routinely finding herself up past midnight working on projects or waiting for inspiration to strike. Whilst journaling her experiences Minhy noted that “my muse is a vampire” and from there “Dead Of The Night” began to take shape from the hazy shadows. “I think being different, being yourself, is what makes a difference. Growth comes out of activities that are both exciting and scary.”

For Minhy that pursuit of creativity despite the fear has resulted in a song that is atmospheric and moody. “Dead Of The Night” lends itself to the quiet moments of our days as Minhy muses for inspiration, “Shadows devoured the day. I’m haunted by the blank page” it’s only in the dead of the night through blood, sweat and tears do the revelations begin to take form. The song embraces a chill-electro vibe featuring lonely pianos and fleshy synth beats that convey not only a spacious soundscape but also the apprehensiveness of the creative process. Minhy’s sings with a euphonic tone that kisses the edges of the song in an ethereal way.

Written by Minhy and produced by SB90 of KLP and Illy fame, the team has pumped life into “Dead Of The Night” by punctuating the song with cascading synths and a catchy beat to captivate. This is the type of song that you would play in the background as you pull an all-nighter, as it urges you along to find your illumination. If you like your dreamy electro tracks that is your tonic.

Just in time for to be added to your Halloween or even end of year exams study playlists, “Dead Of The Night” marks the quiet but determined emergence of a new Australian artist. The song is out now on all streaming platforms.

BIOGRAPHY

Minhy [min-ee] is a visual and melodic storyteller, unravelling the intricate chapters of her own story through her design, songs and production.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Minhy is driven by her family’s refugee journey after the Vietnam War. Their sacrifice and hard work to build a better future has inspired Minhy to make the most of the blessings she’s been given.

With an upbringing valuing academics, responsibility and security, Minhy harboured a quiet dream to be creative and expressive – a dream that challenged these traditions. Recognising her personal values, Minhy took small steps to break free of the family mould, starting with a career in automotive design, later branching further afield to explore production and sound design, whilst establishing herself as a freelance graphic designer. It wasn’t until she was introduced to songwriting at 31 that she finally found her voice.

Minhy’s songwriting style is reflective and attentive, bursting with melodies that feel familiar and fresh. Drawing from a palette of pop, electronic and R&B, Minhy’s influences include Alicia Keys, Grimes, Kimbra and Banks.

Minhy shines a light on the good, finds meaning in the dark and tells stories with a deeper perspective.
