Representing the local rock scene of South Australia, Mums Favourite will unleash their newest single ‘Primrose’ into the music world on September 17th. With mesmerising vocals and an inviting sound, Mums Favourite are sure to win over the hearts of listeners with this artistic interpretation of Shakespeare.

‘Primrose’ begins with a soft and ethereal tone, lead vocalist Sasha Theunissen’s vocals are gentle and the lyrics delicately sung, leaving any listener feeling like they’re floating through a meadow of flowers. The song abruptly bursts into a dynamic and powerful instrumental phase that sees the entrance of psychedelic guitars and a menacing hissing of high hats and cymbals on the drums. Even the sweet and caressing vocals have been turned into dark and powerful melodies, showcasing the real power of Sasha’s voice and emotion behind the lyrics, threatening the sweetness that came just moments before. Their style is reminiscent of music from Florence + The Machine in the sense that their songs are hauntingly beautiful with lyrics to match.

According to the band, ‘Primrose’ was inspired by Shakespeare’s concept of the ‘Primrose Path’ where the dark reality of a situation is disguised by a positive and enticing illusion until it’s revelation. The music perfectly parallels this concept, as the song begins with beautiful, enticing melodies that suddenly break into a sound that is more powerful and sinister, like the veil has been ripped from your eyes, exposing a harsh reality. 

The lyrical mastery for ‘Primrose’ has a level of eloquence that would make even Shakespeare proud. The metaphorical ‘Primrose Path’ allows an array of listeners to relate to the concept, and immerse themselves into the lyrics through the captivating vocal melody.

Mums Favourite artistically portrays the world through rose coloured glasses using the hypnotising vocals of frontwoman and lyricist Sasha Theunissen and the dynamic instrumental created behind them. ‘Primrose’ will leave you in a trance that will only break once the song comes to a close, leaving you begging for another taste, and Mums Favourite will quickly become your favourite too.
