Lillye

.

Sydney female-fronted hard rock band Lillye, combine the best parts of Led Zeppelin and Heart along with the likes of Halestorm, Skunk Anansie and Sevendust; powerhouse bands that match the powerhouse vocals of Lillye front woman, Virginia Lillye.

A lot has happened for Lillye since they formed only five years ago, with the crowning glory being signed to US-based record label Eclipse Records and debut album Evolve slated for release next month. This comes off the back of many shows in Australia and abroad.

Hot on the heels of their brand new video for their new single ‘In The End’ taken from Evolve, Virginia recently had a chat with AMNplify about all things Lillye, their upcoming debut album and career aspirations. Check it out below!

.

.

How and when did the band form?

Lillye was formed after I went into Christian’s (bass) studio to record for another project. I was looking to start a new band and fortunately, so was Christian and guitarist Matt. We started writing tunes and then Bennet (drums) came on board. We started the band in 2013 and released our first EP in 2014.

.

How would you best describe Lillye?

Lillye is band that has power, grit and melodic charm. We aim to be ourselves and hopefully that uniqueness comes across to our listeners.

.

Who are your main musical influences?

Our main musical influences are Sevendust, Skunk Anansie and Led Zeppelin. We all have such diverse range of tastes in music so we try to throw it all into one big melting pot we like to call Lillye.

.

What is the inspiration behind Run?

The song RUN is influenced by all the hand fed media stories that are distributed. It’s about how you decipher for yourself what is true and being strong enough to run with it.

.

What can you reveal about the upcoming debut album, Evolve?

Evolve is our debut album which is exciting for us. The album has 11 strong tracks that we feel displays who we are as a band and best represents the Lillye sound. We have released our first single RUN which has a Mortal Kombat theme to the music video. Our second single IN THE END will be released tomorrow (3/4/18). We may have another couple after that, you will have to wait and see.

How will the debut album differ to the self-titled EP?

Our self titled EP began as demos for us to grow as a band. These demos proved to be more than just that for us as we were able to establish our own unique sound very quickly. Therefore recording it to be our tool to reach out and build a fan base. Our album is the next step. It solidifies who we are as a band and where we are going.

.

What was the experience like signing with US-based label Eclipse Records?

We had been in discussions with a few labels around the globe and after having several Skype sessions with Eclipse, we felt that they were best suited to what we wanted and where we felt we should be heading. Eclipse are a hard rock/metal label with great interest in supporting and nurturing artists and with that in mind, we signed with them. It feels good to have the Eclipse team join forces with us.

.

What has been your most memorable career-highlight to date?

We were fortunate to fly over to the Middle East to perform for the troops. Just being there and seeing everything first hand is an experience in itself, however playing our music and making strong connections through our music with the men and women of the forces was a treat. To be able to take their minds off their tasks and where they are positioned is something we were proud we could do.

.

What would you like to achieve career-wise that you haven’t done yet?

To have a successful album and to have that success be recognised would be something great. Naturally it’s not all about accolades, however we wouldn’t complain if one fell into our laps.

.

If you could play any venue in the world, where would it be and why?

There are a few…Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Madison Square Garden would have to be top two though. Think these venues speak for themselves as to why. They are iconic, I can only imagine if the walls could talk the stories you’d hear! If by some chance we do ever get to play either of these venues, will let you know the backstage whispers…deal?
