“Right from the first note, Ryan Edmond’s debut single grabs you, holds you, and refuses to let go”. – Clash Magazine (UK)

“A similar vocal charm to Tim from Holy Holy and that reggae kinda vibe with the guitars/horns was very unexpected, but impressive”. – 4/5 stars – Bridget Hustwaite – triple j (AUS)

“From The Start is layered with mannerisms of pop, folk and reggae that gives it more depth, pushing him forward as a promising name doing something a little different from the norm”. – Pilerats (AUS)

“Radiating a glow with an enticing carefree indie-pop structure, “By The Water” reveals a little of the romantic gaze of the singer/songwriter”

There is something endearing about Ryan Edmond’s new single “By The Water”. His first single for 2022 lands at the tail end of winter but the song’s vibe emanates that visceral feel of an easy Australian summer day. Radiating a glow with an enticing carefree indie-pop structure, “By The Water” reveals a little of the romantic gaze of the singer/songwriter.

Ryan is originally a Rockingham boy, a coastal suburb abutted against greater Perth. Now the singer and songwriter calls Sweden home and the two locales have married up infusing Ryan’s music with a folk, indie-roots flavour that transcends its typical motifs. “By The Water” is for Ryan “a light-hearted indie track which serves as yet another tribute to your classic ‘romcom’ scenario.” and it feels that Ryan did have a lot of fun with this track which skips lightly in its rhythm as he entices us along like a crush with mischief in their eyes.

The song was produced by György Barocsai from Svenska Grammofonstudion and features a radiant guitar riff and cheerful harmonies that blend almost seamlessly creating a unique colour in the song. Ryan sings with an honesty that conveys charm as he teases “I said those words like this could go on for every”. A sweet whistle comes in and out throughout the song giving the feeling that we’re walking unhurriedly by the water with Ryan, just enjoying the moment. It’s the type of song that will capture the hearts of fans of Dope Lemon, Ball Park Music and Holy Holy with its effervescent energy and pretty lyrics.

“By The Water” is a song begging to come to life on a festival circuit and conveys another side of the ex-pat that appears to show that the Scandanavian lifestyle and his musical influences agree with Ryan and the stories he wants to tell.
